Help a Sista out!!!!
« on: September 27, 2003, 11:19:00 PM »
Praise The Lord Saints!

What advice ccan you give to a sister who knows just enough about the piano to "play" only when there are no other musicians available? I often feel very insecure because I don't play well, but God has blessed me with enough talent to play something. I can't just sit in the pew and leave the service without a musician.

I mostly sing. I teach the choir and am a member of a singing group. I feel highly annointed with a mike in my hand but not with my hands on the keys.

Help a Sista out!!!!! God Bless

Well my sister, what I did when I first started out and still today pray then sit by my instrument waiting for the Lord to put a song on my heart. Then I start playing it for the Lord. If you know the Lord called you to play that instrument play the songs the chior sings even if you don't now how to. The bottom line is that God will grant on to us the desires of our heart.

Remember: No matter what sit with your instrument and never worry what the brothers and sisters say. You just keep on staying focus on the Lord and you will playing what ever God lays on your heart.

Hope this is helpful advice

Bro Arrindell :)

Great advice Arrindell, that's exactly what she needs to do. Just pray about it Rwynn, pray long and hard and be patient to hear what God tells you to do. I think that you should just go on and play, so what if you're not all that great at it, many of us aren't  great at something new when we first start out, but by learning, practicing, and praying unselfishly can you become better. Just keep at it, God already blessed you with the talent you said, so think of it this way, he planted the seed, it's up to you to nourish the seed and all that other upkeep to have a fruitful crop. Stay blessed and keep us updated on how things work out for you.

Don't get discouraged. If God is with you, there is no need to worry. The battle is already won. Just pray and keep the faith.

You remind me of myself. People are going to talk regardless so that means you just keep going. The world is not going to stop because they talk. Who cares? Just use what God has given you.

Just a brief why you shouldn't give up. Our musician had to go out of town this past Sunday( youth Sunday). While he was closing out, I got on the Organ. Well the drummer pointed towards the audience and a lady told me to get off the organ. So I rasied my hands and got up. Now look at God, when I went back my seat, the Preacher turned and looked at me and said " I need you to get back on the Organ for me" DON"T GIVE UP. And let the people talk. God will take care of them.... And if He doesn't HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey C_Will.. I feel you... that's how they used to do me.. when I was learning and developing my "style".. it was new to them, it was NOT the same old, same old.. and the "ELDERs" didn't like it.. but it's grown on them.. especially since I started playing their favorite hymns and songs in my own way..  It's going to take time but as long as you stay FAITHFUL to God and continue to play in the Holy Spirit!!  He will make the way and the "breakthrough" will come!!  I'm a witness to it!!!

Now I can and do hold down services by myself.. I'm still trying to get the singing and playing at the same time.. lol.. but God is good inspite of it!!!

God is SO awesome!!!

Out...

Bless the Lord,
My word of encouragement to you would be your focus. Who do you sing to and to whom do you play unto. If it is unto the Sovereign and Eternal God, then your prayer shouldn't be if the man is pleased but if God is well pleased with your sacrifice. Remember it must be perfect. All worship must come from within, so to expound on the last sentence, your heart must be whole. You cannot offer God half hearted praise or worship, cause you would be lying. You must be whole hearted. Grace and Peace...

Thank you all for your advice. It is good to hear from the saints! The Lord is my light and my salvation, Whom shall I fear? I will continue to press. And I do love the Lord with all of my heart. I think that what my problem is, is that I want to make sure everything is perfect. I want to sing with the praise and worship singers, I want to play, I get so full and want to get MY praise on and dance. I will pray for more direction and focus from the Lord. You all continue to encourage new musicians and May God bless you!!!

Wow, it's been a while but I finally made it back  ..Just wanted to drop a word of encouragement as well, though I see you are well supported.  I don't wanna repeat but don't give up now.  God has brought you waayy to far to let people discourage you.  People used to do me like that in the early days on both drums and keyboards.  Years later, it is those same people who literally won't let me walk into their church and sit down good before they ask me to come up and play at their services.  God said that he would make our enemies our footstool so this will pass.  Remember that the least is the greatest in God's eyesight..Stay Strong
