Has anybody just bought a low price drumset (around $400) and just tried to fix it up. If so let me know how it went because I am thinking about jusst fixing up a cheap drumset using a drum rack.

Yeah, I bought a PULSE for 300 and it sounds great. I changed everything on it and now it sounds great.

Well I bought a Sunlite($500).It wasn't sounding good until I got new heads one all the drums. Now it's sounds just as good as a yamaha.I spent about $200 or more on new hardware, new snare, new cymbals, and new skin's.

The reason I bough a cheap kit was to replace the pearl export I had to take to church. I needed something to practice on at home so I decided to buy a PULSE drum set for $300.00. If you buy a cheaper kit it definently won't sound good at first. All you've really got to do is change all the heads and everything. Like I said above I bought a PULSE and it sounded really, really bad. All I did was change the heads and some of the hardware and now it sounds great. It sounds just like my Pearl. Plus I added on to it and it turned out to be a really great kit. So if you are a beginner and thinking about buying a cheaper one...go ahead. It's worth the try. You can always upgrade.
