This snare that i have is pretty small, i dont remember the exact dimensions but i think its like 12"-10" of something like that.

You have to remember that every recording (if it's a decent one) will have some type of effects, gating, and compression done to the drum tracks. You are going to have a hard time trying to get that type of sound in a live situation without miking. And even if it does sound good to you from behind the kit, it probably and most likely does not sound that way to the audience.

THE TRICK IS TO TUNE IT S AS HIGH AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN BEFORE IT BEGIN TO SOUND LIKE A TIMBALE. I AM TALKING ABOUT TUNING IT WITH THE SNARE THROUGH OFF ON. IF AL ELSE FAILS, JUST PUT A LIL' PIECE OF DUCT TAPE TO ON THE BATTER HEAD TO CONTROL THE OVERTONES. AS FOR THE SNARE SIDE, IT USUALLY IS BEST TO TIGHTEN TO MEDIUM TENSION, ANYTHING MORE THAT THIS WILL ALTER THE SOUND OF THE SNARE TO BE ALMOST NON-EXISTENT. IT WILL JUST SOUND LIKE THE SNARE IS OFF, THE GOAL OF IT ALL IS TO HAVE A SOUND THAT YOU PERSONALLY ARE LOOKING FOR BECAUSE I KNOW SOME THAT JUST CRANK IT UP AND OTHERS THAT LIKE IT LOW AND BASICALLY ONLY GOOD FOR THE TWO AND FOUR. EXPERIMENT AND FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU.........
