Has Anyone Ever Had This Problem?
« on: February 18, 2005, 07:38:17 PM »
Has anyone ever had this problem where they had to play for an evangelist and the guy on the organ tried to outplay the guy on the keyboard. Man this guy was cold on the organ. But when I get on the keyboard playing for the evangelist he started doing all of these crazy runs that i couldnt keep up with. Man you would have thought dude was playing a bass guitar for Dottie Peoples the way he was running the basslines. But anyway I just wanted to see if anyone has ever had this problem?

That is a spirit that attacks those in ministry frequently.  Anyone that is part of the pulpit is subject to it.  Worship leaders, drummers, keyboardist, vocalists... etc..    It is a spirit of Jealousy or agressiveness.  Like they are protecting thier territory flexing their muscles.  I've seen it happen so many times.  Even causing a worship leader to butt heads with the pastor cause he was led to go another direction and the worship leader was buckin to get control of the service back....

Yea, I've had this problem several times. But in my case it is the keyboardist trying to outplay the organist! This particular guy started out on the organ and decided to switch over to keyboards only. He took his organ to his home and then set up a large keyboard setting in the church. Then I came along with my portable Hammond X-5 organ and started playing at this same church and my only intension was to compliment the other musicians; THEN THINGS GOT CRAZY! He started really blasting his music to such a loud level that you could'nt hear anyone else, BUT I JUST KEPT ON PLAYING FOR JESUS! Then he purchases 3 more keyboards and a new larger amp to go with his already large set-up. Now he is surrounded with 6 keyboard, 1 keyboard amp with 2 large extended speakers and a floor monitor, and also a power amp system. I'm not knocking this guy, I just know by the spirit that his mentality is this..."If I can't outplay ya, then I'll just out-blast ya. BUT I JUST KEEP ON PLAYING FOR JESUS! I always try to get to church at least 30 min. to 1 hr early to pray, and so I'm always there before him. Sometimes church will start and he's still not yet there so I'll start playing some nice worship chords while the people are praying and then this guy will come in, crank up his system and then starts to play something totally different WHILE I'M PLAYING WORSHIP CHORDS AT PRAYER TIME! Now to top it all off; He is now up-grading his organ and leslie so that he can bring it back to the church to start playing organ again, which is fine I guess, I just don't want the 2 organs to collide. We will soon be having a meeting along with the Pastor to talk about some of the issues facing our musicians. Some people think that bigger is better and more of something is better, but sometimes the more of something is not neccesarily better, JUST LOUDER!!! Pray for me. Peace. B3Maniac.

Man the Evangelist had just prophecied to me that every time i get on the keyboard I will have a special anointing everytime I play. That night I had to apologize to God because I disobeyed him. I didnt even play that night. I also let the spirit of fear come over me. Now I am taking gospel lessons again and I will know what to do in that instance again. Thanks for you alls replies and keep them coming. Aiight Holla!!!

When i played for the choir..i had this male musician always trying to tell me what to do and how to play a song on Sunday morning and he wouldnt say nothing at musician rehearal..just sit there.  But he would alway try to make me look really bad..he played the organ and i played my keyboard..he got so bad he would get up in them middle of service leave the organ and stand over me..on day..i believe God was testing me really good..i he was just stand there..hitting the keys down hard on my keyboard standing over me saying some kind of demonloigaly stuff..i turn around and told him to Stop standing over me talkin that stuff and go back to the organ. He is alot younger then I..I was hot inside..that day i didnt have the victory i was really upset..it had been several months..now 7 yrs have passed..i don't play at church anymore..those spirits are terrible and now another musician is there and this other guy is back and this new musician is makin him reap..i smile and and said to this guy ,,,dont u remember how u used to do mean when i played the keyboard..he turned his head around and said,,no..i don't remember that.  Its just a spirit of jealousy within these musicians and of course Satan and his helpers always want to look so big..and they just make a mess of themselves.  Now, this guy wants me to play the piano or something..i say no..i am doing fine at home.  I am just busy trying to get to heaven not get so angry till i miss out on getting to heaven.

Don't fret yourself over evil doers they'll wither and dry up like the grass. Just be steadfast, unmovable always abounding in the word of the Lord, Your labor is not in vain. peace

That has happened to me.  We visited this church and I was playing my keyboard and their musician was on the organ.  All the while I was playing he would crank his organ up and play all kinds of runs and stuff.  I know he was trying to drown me out just cuz I didn't do all that fancy stuff.  My church people was mad with him and so was I.  At one point I just stop playing and started to praise God.  It all worked out though cuz we still had some sho nuff church that night.
Real musicians play in every key!!!

I've come across musicians that tried to outplay me and each other.  I remember playing at a church and MY choir got finished singing.  The spirit was moving so the congregation started singing the song as well.  The musician of the church simply SLID me off the organ so that she could play and I was just on the floor thinking, "What just happened?"

But, today, I consider that a learning experience and nothing else.  Situations like that don't happen too often nowadays.  Unless asked, I let church musicians play for their people and I'll only play for my choir or pastor.  Now, I try to be versitile so when I am asked to play along with other musicians and they got the organ or piano covered, I just go to strings or simply play the bass note if there's not a bass player.

But here's a question:  Have you ever tried to blend in and the other musicians beg you to turn your music.....up??

Even better:  Have musicians saw you walk in the building and ask YOU to play INSTEAD of them??

Got another one:  Have people come up to you and you have NEVER seen them before, but they KNOW who you are AND what you do AND know who you play for and can't wait to hear you play?

How about this:  Have you heard a really good, very professional musician and you know in your mind you're not on their level and they come up to you and ask "Hey, when are you going to show me those chords you do?" and they were DEAD SERIOUS??

It's a two-way street.  Trust me when I tell you.  SOMEONE out there is listening to you and you're blessing them in a way that only GOD can bless.  It's not your job to understand.  Just accept.

Holla!!

HA HA HA HA  :D Homegirl actually slid you off the organ! No, she didn't!

I don't mean to laugh, because that was SO RUDE . . . . you know, inviting a musician to your instrument is like inviting them to your house; if you don't want them there then don't invite them. So it was very rude and I don't mean to laugh . . . . but I'm sorry, I'm sitting here just cracking up because I can see a musician there on the floor, just having been evicted from the organ bench, thinking "What just happened?"  :D  :D

Good grief, that is funny . . . thank you for giving me the first good laugh of the morning.

Be Blessed . . .
