Yea, I've had this problem several times. But in my case it is the keyboardist trying to outplay the organist! This particular guy started out on the organ and decided to switch over to keyboards only. He took his organ to his home and then set up a large keyboard setting in the church. Then I came along with my portable Hammond X-5 organ and started playing at this same church and my only intension was to compliment the other musicians; THEN THINGS GOT CRAZY! He started really blasting his music to such a loud level that you could'nt hear anyone else, BUT I JUST KEPT ON PLAYING FOR JESUS! Then he purchases 3 more keyboards and a new larger amp to go with his already large set-up. Now he is surrounded with 6 keyboard, 1 keyboard amp with 2 large extended speakers and a floor monitor, and also a power amp system. I'm not knocking this guy, I just know by the spirit that his mentality is this..."If I can't outplay ya, then I'll just out-blast ya. BUT I JUST KEEP ON PLAYING FOR JESUS! I always try to get to church at least 30 min. to 1 hr early to pray, and so I'm always there before him. Sometimes church will start and he's still not yet there so I'll start playing some nice worship chords while the people are praying and then this guy will come in, crank up his system and then starts to play something totally different WHILE I'M PLAYING WORSHIP CHORDS AT PRAYER TIME! Now to top it all off; He is now up-grading his organ and leslie so that he can bring it back to the church to start playing organ again, which is fine I guess, I just don't want the 2 organs to collide. We will soon be having a meeting along with the Pastor to talk about some of the issues facing our musicians. Some people think that bigger is better and more of something is better, but sometimes the more of something is not neccesarily better, JUST LOUDER!!! Pray for me. Peace. B3Maniac.
