Barbershop talk ... random thought was ... interesting was wondering if anyone else had a similar opinion.

Superheros such as Spiderman/Superman essentially become the being in the movies that people would call on when something goes awry. Thus this theory (or some guy's random musing) says that people are replacing Jesus with the idea of a superhero  ....

it may be easier to see it this way by looking at the darker side. This same theory goes on to the reason why vampires/werewolves are making a lot of movies/tv shows. Again the same premise applies a coordinated attack to remove the notion that Jesus is needed.

Lets take the movie twilight the first thing is that evil is romanticize and it perverts the idea of evil as if it is good. By doing this people start to accept that there is more than one way to do something and this way in the movie isn't that bad and that it makes sense.

So is there anyone else on here who ever thought that someone/something was attempting to use superheros to dilute the image/need of Jesus in the american psyhce?

.... there was one flaw in my mind about this whole thing and that is as long as you can separate fact from fiction no worries.

Well I was really sleepy and didn't feel like typing a long response.

Frankly I don't think it has anything to do with replacing Jesus. They just want to make super-heroes, and people nowadays already know fact from fiction. We all know Supes is just a fictional character.

I don't want to spiritualize everything. :)

No Sketchy, my response wasn't out of ignorance. My response is just what I happen to believe. Why make it a long drawn out argument when it can be a simple yes or no.

While not to "replace" jesus, many of them draw on the "Jehovah/Jesus/man" story line.

Perfect example is Superman, where you have Jor-El, giving his only son to save the world. Especially when it was done for the 1978 movie.
Quote
They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you... my only son.

AND you have that shot of Kal-el above the earth in a crucifix position in the recent movie.

AND, their name is "El" (house of El), a common prefix in many of personified names of God. (Shaddai, Elyon, etc)

from Superman returns
Quote
Lois:"The world doesn't need a savior. And neither do I." To which, Superman responds, "You wrote that the world doesn't need a savior. But everyday I hear people crying for one."

in the comic canon, Supes dies, and got back up. They even used the the iconography of "the tomb is empty!"

ya cant have Supes without Jesus.

and here's a bonus. Supes was made by Seigel and Shuster...... Jewish people.

And Jesus was born of.....Jewish people.....

This is an interesting discussion.

Slightly over my head, since I'm not into superheroes and things... but interesting nonetheless.

Because that would imply that the above statement is a pretty cool guy; that Eh absolute truths and doesn't afraid of anything.
