I have a 6x13 maple snare w/ wood hoops from Allegra Drum Crafters of Oregon. This snare is AMAZING. Everywhere I've gone folk wanna where I got it and who made it. It has a warm, down low sound. I have an Aquarian Modern Vintage on it and I've not heard anything like it. Crank it tight and folk are duckin' cause they think someone's shootin,! Ease the tension back and it has that real FAT DEEP sound. Maybe I'm biased but, "I DO LOVE MY DRUM" -Drumeline.

If I ever buy another set, I'm going to get it from Allegra. Anyone who makes a snare that sounds that good gots tah know what they are doin.

Be blessed Ya'll!

Snare Drum selection.

I currently play with Tama's G Maple snare drum - it's a 6"x14" thirteen ply maple snare drum with die cast hoops.  The finish is called Gold Sunburst and it also has nickel brushed hardware.

In regards to the tuning of the drum, I have the snare side tensioned fairly tight - there is maybe less than an inch from the bearing edge of the snare drum (bottom) to the bottom of the diecast rim.  The batter head is also tensioned fairly tight, with the snares itself at a medium tension.

The head selection is as follows: Evans ST (Super Tough) or Evans Power Center Reverse Dot and the stock Evans Hazy 300 snare side.

The sound that this drum produce is absolutely incredible!

Is da pearl piccolo a really good snare? Does it have a nice sharp, tight sound? I've heard good things 'bout it and I'm thinking of buying it to replace my old CB snare.

I play a yamaha 12''x6 inch stage custom.  Im probably the only one that plays on this snare.  It don't compare to what ya'll got. i'm workin my way up there. I had a pearl piccolo and a 10x6 premier. but my yamaha sounds so nice.  I just changed both the top and bottom heads man this thing sounds lovely.

personally i dont like piccolos no more... you cant get to much of a variety of sounds. I think the best way to go is to get a deep dish snare. They are versatile. Also on recordings the piccolo is not the way to go trust me..... its to much pop for the micraphones.

Man Right now I have a Grestch Catilina Elite 4x14" Snare that came wit my first set that I still have. But I also have a TOTALLY custom tam-snare (that's what I call it). I nailed&glued 2 13" tamborines together, put 2 snrae drum heads on the top and bottom of it. Then bought 2, 8-lug drum hoops with the screws and added the snares on the bottom. After I waited for it to dry I tested it on my Pearl and on my "1/2&1/2" It sounds GREAT. But regrettfully I sold it for 250$. It only cost me like 75$ to buy the material and to construct. I think I can make alot of money producting them. But what inspired me to what was when I saw the REAL thing on a travel "JUNGLE" sonar set. The only reason I decided to make was because "MARS" wasn't sellin' it seperatlly until later. But I made another one with gold drums hoops that I use for my self.

Gretch Catalina Birch - 5.5 x 14... came with the set.. BUT... I love the sound... I do use a Richie Ring on it tho...

Anyone got any clue on how I can completly kill the overring without using a 'Richie Ring'?

Yeah man, I bought this "gooie" type of elastic from my snare I think it's called Moon Patches or something like that. If u go to a close-by guitar center or something and ask from it they might be able to help u out. But what it is, is it's a small blue patch that u place on any drum (except the bass drum) and put it near the rim of the drum. It will deaden all of the overtones without totally muting your drum.  TRY IT. It only cost about  7.00 for 5

I just thought about it. The name of it is called MoonGel. It's blue and it comes in a black circle container. They're  blue squares about a inch wide and about a 1/2 inch long. There about a 1/8 of a centermeter thick. Very inexspensive for what they are worth. (I should be a spokesperson)

"Cogic Drummer" really i dont used piccolos any more neither because i think they only sound good with a old school cogic or baptist :D.
