I commend all drummers who listen to other genres of music and drummers such as Teddy Campbell, Terry Bozzio, Nisan Stewart, JoJo Mayer, Elvin Jones, Roy Haynes, Will Kennedy, LaDell Abrams, and Jeremy Haynes. But you must realize that gospel music has a certain distinctive pulse that requires precise timing and cleaness. Example: (You would not try to play Shoutin' Music like Tony Royster Jr. would play a rock rhythm at the same tempo). No offense to Tony, but he is not a LaDell Abrams when it comes to gospel. Overall, keep learning different styles, but give each stlye its origin (be true to the stlye of music).  It takes alot of time, dedication, and it's hardwork, but with God and your ambition to be the best you can possibly be, all things are possible. Keep playing and practicing with heart and passion and let your hands and ears be creative while you play whatever you play! (Be Strong) 8)
