soldieranointed, to answer your question,
Doobie Powell's out of CT. Has 3 CDs out locally. The Offspring, The Offspring Vol. 1, and Can't Be Stopped. (I may be wrong about the name for the first album. Got to cdbaby.com. You can hear snippets of his past albums. You may need to contact his church directly to order copies. Known to be sick on drums, also on the keys.
His brother is Billy Powell, aka Churchboy. He has a local CD out called Churchboy as well. He's sick on the drums as well. Their other brother, Kevin Powell, plays mostly organ and keys, if I'm not mistaken.
But the Powells are a talented and blessed family. I've always thought the same thing, why they're not more widely distributed. But that's a management thing. Also, it may be by choice. Not sure. Whatever it is, good music comes out from that family. I may have to buy the Kim Burrell album, though it's so old. If Doobie was killing it on that like people say, those licks are still relevant and applicable today.
What makes his drumming stand out is his placement. He has a good sense of space and knows how to accent very well. He punctuates the music well. He can do some nice rolls just with the snare and hi-hat. And he's always in the pocket.
