Effects Pedals? Single or Multi?

I'm a beginning bassman as green as they come so I would appreciate any good advice.
Are the pedals such as the Digitech BP200 (approx. $149 new) really good enough for live church selections?
Am I better off just buying a chorus pedal ($70 new) and a funk pedal ($40 new) separately or are all the extra trappings on a BP200 really worth it?
Also is it going too far if I purchased a $$$ Digitech BNX3 (multi effects) for playing at church, practicing, recording etc. ? This versatile machine records up to 8 tracks with drum, guitar, etc.
I've posted links to look/listen at these. Of course all of these prices are much lower on Ebay where I actually buy.

BNX3(multi effects/recording):

Thanks for your advice and time. God Bless you and yours.
