Premier Kits
« on: March 16, 2005, 09:03:25 AM »
Hey everyone this is my first post. LOL I have an older premier kit at home, I just cant seem to get the sound out of it that I want, even with Aquarian heads on my toms and bass, does anyone know anything about Premier? Is it a bad kit? Do you think I need to upgrade?

man was up? Naw premier kits are nice try to get some remo pinstripes or ambassadors for ya toms and the aquarian bass drum head i forget what it's called but .... premeir kits are really good. me personally i really don't like aquarian heads on my toms. Only ones i like are the jack dejunette heads for my snare and the bass head.

Aquarian super kick for your bass drum. I think you should really consider the remo pinstripes. What sizes are your toms?

CONGAHEAD:

man I believe they are 14, 15, and 18 the bass is 22.  I might be off on the 2nd tom but I am pretty sure thats what they are.  I'm not really feelin the bigger toms.

The sound may also be due to the quality of the kit. Is it a lower or higher end Premiere, because I know the starter kits aren't as good when it comes to that sound you want.
My goal as a musician is to be better than myself.

O.K. you have to consider what wood your kit is made of. Is it maple or birch? Maple will give you a warmer, deeper sound with good projection. Birch will give you a brighter, attacking sound. You can only get as much out of your drum set as it allows. You have to spend time tweeking it and making it desirable for you. Play around with the kit. If can pick up remo pinstripes, clear or coated ambassadors, Evans g2 etc.Play with it until you get what you are looking for. I think if you try all of these different heads you will become versed in the dynamics of drum heads.

An old friend of mine has a Premier kit with ebony pinstripe heads on it. Man does it sound good. Just keep tweeking around with it and if you have the money try different heads on it.

I live here in TX and I Guitar Center stopped carrying them 3 years ago. I liked my set, it was a Cabria Jazz set. The best heads in the world are Evans Hydraulics. Try them on your heads, you won't even need a ring around the head.
