Wassup folks!!! My dad stays on me about living sticks at the church. I leave a pair there most of the time, but I really dont like to leave my sticks there because of the "lil ones". They will climb all on your set and will break your sticks. I have "lil ones" come up and play on my extra double pedal on the side of my set, twist on my hi hat, babies taking my sticks and when I try to get them back they start crying and hollering and dont wanna let them go. I mean after church they just bomb rush to my drumset. I tell them the set is off limits and to get off the look at me and smile like I havent said anything.

I sho do. You I try to tell them to stop but you don't want to hurt their feelings. Then you don't want to dicourage the kids who may seriously be gifted and/or serious about music. It is truly a dilema

I have this problem all of the time. I usually throw a sheet over the set as a visual deterent. Also I take my pedal, snare, cymbals, and sticks home with me to make it virtually unplayable. But then you have to make sure no one else has to use the set in between each time that you play.

I have the same problem. Sometimes they try to take my sticks and then if they dont get them the beat on my cymbals with their hands.

We meet in a hotel right now, so I haven't had the... um... what's the right work here... privaledge of having that happen to me yet.

I would do the sheet thing, but I would approach your dad about being the 'good steward' of what God is allowing you to use. Explain to him that if things are hit incorrectly then drum heads can break, cymbals can get bent and break, and that it would be wrong of you, being a steward, to just sit back and let 'precision pieces of musical equipment' get 'vandalized' by those unable to properly be trained in their use yet.

End by telling him that "if I have been placed in a position of stewardship, by God, shouldn't I protect His property? I mean, we did put a roof on the church, right? To protect it from the rain... how can I do or be expected to do anything less?"

and then just listen to his response. If all this fails then take the foot petal and drumsticks and leave them in the church office, or a closet, after service. Make sure to go out of you way to tell you dad that they can be found there if they're ever needed.

I take my cymbals sticks and double foot pedal home with me sometimes. But sometimes I leave my cymbals there because I hate lugging 7 cymbals, drumsticks, and a double footpedal home. I am the orginal drummer at my church but I play the keyboard too. I am training my friend behind me so that he can be just as good one day. Last Sunday he was leaning on my 14" floor tom which is on a external clamp stand by itself he doesnt say anything all service he probably wasnt going to say anything at all. When its time for my dad to get up and preach I look over at the drums and my floor tom fell off of the clamp and was on the floor just layin there. I said how did this happened he said I dont know I said you were leaning on werent you he said yeah I didnt get mad at him but I told him not to lean on it because it was not the type of floor tom to be leaning on. My other floor tom is beside the floor tom that is on the clamp, and every Sunday he put his bible on there sometimes after breakfast he put orange juice over there and every Sunday a family cleans up and they wonder why its so junky over there and he say it was me , but they know I be on the keyboard so they make him get it up. And one time my chain was off of one of my double pedals he was playing on, he didnt tell me about that either, I just happened to look down one day and see the chain off I didnt get mad because that only happens when you are taking the foot pedal apart and putting it in a bag or something, I didnt say anything about that issue but its starting to get serious now.

I go through that every other Sunday it seems like.  I try not to be rude, but gear is very expensive especially coming out of your own pocket.  The sheet thing is cool, I did that, but we rehearse like 3-4 days out of the week and that gets tiresome taking the sheet on and off.  Now I'm in the "Octagon" at church. It's a mini sound booth type of cage with plexiglass and sound absorbing pads behind me. There is no top to seal it, but there is a door and I just lock it up.

in my case i solved the problem by taking my pedal and sticks with me....for some reason they just didn't find the kit as much fun without the pedal/sticks.

i'm all for the little ones learning and wish someone would've done it for me but as someone previous said gear is getting way to expensive now and i've got to be selective with who does what with my stuff
