What is Laying Hands Supposed to Do?
« on: January 02, 2016, 09:24:32 AM »
I went to prayer this morning and a lady said that God said there are people in the room dealing with XYZ and if you're dealing with that or want to be a proxy for someone dealing with that then come to the altar and they will lay hands on you.

I've been declaring against XYZ in my life since beginning-mid November and recently I've been declaring against XYZ for a friend of mine. I have confidence when I approach God; that when I ask anything according to his will, he hears me. (1 John 5:14) Still, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to go down as a proxy, if this was the deliverance I was declaring and believing for, or if I was supposed to go at all. I didn't think to pray for confirmation so I went to the front thinking that I would just be a proxy for my friend.

I assumed the lady who I was assigned to would ask me if I'm dealing with XYZ or if I was trying to be a proxy for someone else, but she went right into praying for and touching and agreeing with me. I didn't know if I should have stopped her because there were times in the past couple of months where XYZ came up, it was really strong and didn't take a lot to flare up. I fought against it, but it was like arm wrestling someone who's strength is equal to yours. Eventually God made it go away. (for a time? forever? idk) I figured if I had to do all that then it's not gone and maybe I needed to touch and agree with someone. :-\

After we were done I asked if we could touch and agree for my friend and we did.

When we were dismissed from prayer I asked one of the members of the prayer team if going to the altar shows a lack of faith inwhat you've been telling God you believe Him for. He didn't really answer my question, so I'm asking you guys. Also, is laying hands supposed to be a form of deliverance or is it just a form of prayer? Right now I'm figuring I should never go to the altar unless I'm 1000% sure that they're talking about me. What do you know about this subject? Is there scripture for this?

Thanks for your help!

Laying on of hands is not a form of deliverance, but it can be used as a tool in the ministry of deliverance/healing as a point of contact to transfer power. Whatever we do in deliverance must be led of the Holy Spirit. He might tell you the location on the body of the evil spirit, or where healing is needed as a Word of Knowledge. Sometimes Jesus just spoke and the enemy would flee; other times He spoke and laid hands especially with healing.

"And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed." -Matt 8:2-3

All power and authority is in Jesus' hands, so when He laid them on people or even when He was touched, they received that power.

"And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue [power] had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?" - Mk 5:30

In Matt 10:1 and Luke 9:1, Jesus gave his disciples power and authority over devils and unclean spirits and to cure and heal all manner of sickness and disease

Of course touching and agreeing comes from "Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven." - Matt 18:19

While the scripture says touching, it doesnt have to be physical. The greek translation gives many definitions of touching for this scripture (with respect to, concerning, about, pertaining to, for sake of).

So its up to you. Jesus used touching, so its not out of line. However, I know some people are concerned about transferring of spirits which is something to give pause if the person is unknown to you; but if they are being led by His Spirit you're fine. You have responsibility too. The same Spirit that resides in them is in you as well, so if you feel uncomfortable you could really quickly say a  short prayer to ask the Lord if you should go or not. Or secondly, you can pray a prayer of protection to cover yourself if you just don't know about the person. At my church, you dont lay hands unless you're being led by the Holy Spirit or you're under the direction of the pastor which is led, so we can always go. If something remotely sounds like it fits me, or when we just want to be sure to make certain that XYZ is not a hinderance; we quickly get down to the altar. Deliverance is a process and there could be open doors in your life still available to let the enemy in. The most concerning thing is when you're delivered you never want to be entangled again, because the devil has legal authority to come back seven times more wicked than the first. Matt 12:43-45. Give no place to the devil. Get clean, stay clean, be cleansed again.

Laying on of hands is mostly a New Testament action that the apostles would perform on those people needing prayer/salvation. It's also widely believed that the "impartation/infilling/indwelling of the Holy Ghost" is brought about by the laying on of hands by priests, elders, pastors, etc...
It's not at all a requirement to have to perform nor be the recipient of, but there's nothing wrong with it at all, in my opinion, and maybe by doing so...having someone lay hands on you and pray for you...you'll show obedience and submission to God and it could be 'the thing' that initiates Him working in and through you regarding XYZ.
Music theory is not always music reality.
