does anyone have any experience using the yamaha stage custom advantage or the tama rockstar custom in church? are you able to get good sound out of them? any complaints about the finishes or hardware? im interested in purchasing a new intermediate kit. your opinions are welcome.

4 months ago I purchased the Gretch Catalina Birch set. A lot of drummers prefer maple, but I really liked the sound of this birch set. I think it's perfect for use during worship. I find the tones are a little 'brighter'.

I have a six piece set: an 8" tom, 10" tom, 12" tom, 14" floor tom, 14" snare, and 22" bass. It comes in a few colors, but I bought the dark red set. Dark green is good too. I bought heavy duty Pacific harware with it, but I should have spent the extra money to get some harware with 'memory locks', since my church is currently meeting in hotels until we find a building. Set up, tear down, set up, tear down... it's a lot of work, but worth it!  :D

I think there are some good deals including hardware going on in eBay right now for this set.

i just bought a tama rockstar custom from this guy for $130.  Yo this thing didn't have a thing wrong with it. No scratches no nics nothing broke.  The toms sound great now that i put evans g2's on them. Tama's are a good set i think people are sleeping on them.  I got mine and that thing is just music to my ears. but i like it though it's a fusion set. 10" 12" 14" i'm about to order a 16" too.

I have my own personal kit a Yamaha Stage Custom 8', 10', 12', and a 16' floor tom, but the church has a Gretch Catalina Birch set.  It sounds good with clear evans g2 heads.

Well, TAMA discountinued the Rockstar and brought back the Superstar.  It has really good hardware and Birch is one of the two woods used so I know it has to sound good.  Anyway, Rockstars are good.

Yamaha Stage Customs sound really good too.  I personally like the new Noveau Stage Customs.  They have the option of selecting Birch or Oak.

If I were you, I would seriously check out the New Pacific LXE's or the LX (Maple).  I played a set last Saturday at Sam Ash by my way and it really sounded good.  The guys there had tuned it really good and put the DW 9000 pedals on it.  It looked and sounded amazing.
