All my Drummers

I am trying to get the opinions of all the drummers out there.  What exactly does playing in a pocket mean to you?  In my opinion, it is keeping the time, and putting fills in where they are supposed to be.  It also is not taking up too much of the space, especially when playing in a band...ALL THE DRUMMERS OUT THERE, LET ME KNOW YOUR ANSWER.

Well I am a drummer that is my primary instrument.  You are correct in your definiton of pocket the drummer and bass player should hold the pocket so that the keys and the guitar can do there thang.   Drums are time keepers and should blend in with the band and not be louder than the band ONE BAND ONE SOUND!!!!  If your drummer is have trouble with there timing have them invest in a metrodome it will help out a whole lot.  Another thing you can do is buy a drum machine or you can lay a drum track on your board if you have a good sequencer that will also work.  Most of the time if a drummer is doing a whole lot of stuff he/she is not feeling the music.  A drummer can sometimes play what they hear and not what they feel have them to play what they feel instead of what they hear it will be a big difference.

I'm a drummer to. The drummer job is to keep the beat. The person that is playing the drums should stay in the pocket. The drunner shouldn't play louder than any other instrument. It should be a balance between the music and the choir. The reason the music shouldn't be to loud because you don't want people to say that the music jamming but,I couldn't hear what the choir was saying.A good idea would be to have a musician rehersal for everybody would know what to do.If your drummer have trouble keeping the beat buy a metronome.
