Hey guys I just thought of something that we really need to discuss prior to Sunday.  Are we going to make this a keeper league?  And if so, how many will we keep and how do we want it to affect the next year's draft?  I think that makes a difference in how you draft.  Also, it would have an effect on whether or not others join next year if we do it again.

Sjon, is there anyway we can get everybody in the league to chat?

We can definitely try and set a time.  I would like to make this suggestion and hopefully expedite things.  To keep it simple, let's try a 1 player keeper this year.  That player could be anybody that you drafted or have on your team at the end of the season that was NOT picked in rounds 1 and 2.  I say that because it makes it more competitive to have your "studs" rotated every year.  Plus we can see how good your drafting skills really are.  The following year you lose that corresponding pick.  In other words, if you drafted Carson Palmer in the 4th round and you choose him as your keeper, then he is essentially your 4th round pick next year.  If it is somebody you picked up via trade or free agency, we can still track the transactions to a draft pick.  With that you would have to keep in mind that if you trade for someone that was drafted in the 1st or 2nd round you couldn't keep him for next year.  (Man the more I explain this the cooler it sounds!!!)

Any more explanation needed?  Let me know what ya'll think about that, pros and cons, etc.

Man, as long as I don't have to do any administration, run with it.  You cats sound serious about this.  Too bad a rookie like me is gonna take it all.  LOL.

Ok, that sounds very complicated. I thought, if it's a keeper league, then I get to do just that KEEP who I've got. ?/?

Because then, what's the point? If I trade with someone and get a 1st or 2nd round pick, but I have to give him up, why bother with the keeper league; might as well start fresh, like this year. :-\

that's a dynasty league.  You keep all your players and just draft rookies every year.  I'm just hyped about football in general and may be a tad bit overzealous.

Whether you all want your beatdowns simple or complicated, it doesn't matter to me.  Just as long as you know they're coming... ;D  Go ahead and put some hard back books in your pants.

Randomly selected by the computer.  Everybody should plan for this to be possibly a long evening.  16 teams, 15 rounds, a maximum of 2 minutes per pick.  Everybody please be somewhat prepared and it won't take all night.  But truthfully ya'll can just close you eyes and click.  You're reading a post by the WINNER already. ;D

I'm going off a mental picture of the websiite, but it seems like if you look to the left and click the "matchup" link, then above the matchup information in the large frame there will be a "set lineup" link.  Click that and that's how you decide who to start/bench every week.

I got into the draft during like the fourth round.  The autopick had already given me Willie Parker, Chad Johnson, and T.J. Houshmanzadeh.  I applaud the WR duo but I had to fix that quick before I got stuck on their bye week.

Because I'm the commish. Any FA you want picked up, just PM me and I'll make it happen ASAP.

This is ONLY for the preseason. It's a mistake I made during 'rules' set-up.

Please charge it to my head and not my heart.  :)

So, hit me up with what you want to do; preferably this week, while I'm not at work. ;)

If you have the NFL network they run a ticker all day Sunday that shows game by game, stats by stats.  AOL also keeps a running total of your scores during the game.  You can sit there and watch yourself get beat down by ThemWeDoNotspeakOf...errr I mean you can keep up with your status.

By the way.....Team 7 looks so bad, they should just disband....(when they do, can I have Roy Williams?) ;D

Who has the 9'ers......that's a real good squad...(although I don't think I would've started Palmer vs the Ravens.)

haha.......on the real....from this side of the field, it looks like you got some holes at tight end....and I only like one of your running backs (Benson).

You only have 1 defense (and I can't get all warm and fuzzy about them).......and your place kicker will be kicking in snow, rain, and wind in a couple of months...other than that, you are all set. ;)

Ahhh... football season.  I love it.  Words start flying, people start talking about how good their fantasy team should be:

first of all Minnesota was first in Rushing defense last year, giving up only 9 TD's on the ground.  they were last in passing yards, but only gave up 15 TD's through the air (New England was #1 with 10 given up).  Take into account that they play in the NFC north, not known for offensive juggernauts.

My tendency is to sacrifice tight end for depth at other positions.  Generally you have about 8 tight ends that will put up quality fantasy numbers (Gates, heap, gonzalez, Miller, winslow, Witten, Davis, Crumpler).  We're in a 16 team league, they go fast.  On most teams, a #2 receiver makes more catches and TD's than the starting tight end, so I'd rather take a #2 receiver.

Placekicker,  and what?  In one of my leagues we're voting to take the kicker out all together.  Pick a team that's going to score points that has a kicker that can kick in all weather.  Pitt opens up the offense this year, and if Reed can kick in the snow and cold, he can kick anywhere.

What's left, running back?  Alexander is on the downhill, but even on the downhill he still has Walter Jones at left tackle so he will get 15-20 TD's.  Plus he's feature and goal line back.  He only gets spelled on 3rd down sometimes.  How many NFL teams still have one feature running back?  Benson is the one I'm not high on, but it's only a matter of time before Norwood takes over in Atlanta.  Not to mention Leon Washington has big play potential and Thomas Jones is injury prone.

Then again, with all that said what do I know?  Let's see how the season goes and re-visit.  that's what great about fantasy football.

You are correct....it's all conjecture at this point....however:

Minn.'s defense is ok.....but with the potential of their offense being soooo bad, how long can they stay on the field and bend before the break?

"2nd option WR's are a good bet....that's why I took Randle-El, Calvin Johnson, Devin Hester, and Ginn Jr.

....and, Alexander could get alot of TD's in short yardage if he stays healthy.  I feel the logic....(which is why I took Betts, Faulk, and Cartwright to compliment Addai).

Guys, once it is unlocked there is a feature called the "trading block."  There you can let everybody know who's available and what you are looking for in return.

Hey Commish, is it possible to cut on all transactions before Thursday just in case people want to make adjustments before the first game?

2 Questions:

1) Who's the better QB: Gerrard-Jacksonville or Romo-Dallas?

2)Why should I trade either of them for Steven Jackson?
Title: Re: AOL FANTASY FOOTBALL!!
Post by: favoritepsalm1 on September 04, 2007, 06:51:34 AM
It depends on your need.  If you feel you have enough depth at running back or need a quarterback so bad that you can trade Steven Jackson then you pull it.  That being the case, Garrard is not the starter in Jacksonville and they don’t have the best receiving corps.  Romo is the man in Dallas, and he’s throwing to T.O., Terry Glenn, and Jason Witten.  He’ll get you 200+ yards and 2 TD’s a game easily.

Correction, Gerrard IS the starter in Jacksonville, they cut Leftwich. In addition, the receiving isn't terrible. Gerrard is good for the same type of numbers PLUS he can run the ball (a bit more mobile than Romo, just a bit.)

As for Gerrard vs Romo, there's another possibility at QB for ya, DBG. ;)

When did this happen?  That shows I've been out of the loop for a few days.  No ESPN, no DSL   :P

I stand corrected, but still say Romo is  the best of those two.

Hey, Hines Ward has come through for me on previous fantasy teams.  I know Pittsburgh doesn't throw as much as teams like Indy and Philly, but I wouldn't mind having him again.  I wouldn't mind having Reggie Wayne either.  Bernard Berrian is good but as long as Rex Grossman is taking the snaps for the Bears, Chicago is going to be a graveyard for WRs.

Hey, I’ll admit.  I have bible study on Mondays, so I was sitting at my computer at 7:58 waiting for the FA’s like wedding guests at the reception waiting for the wedding party to finish taking pictures.  Didn’t care who came free, I just knew I had some needs.  I am more than willing to deal RB’s or WR’s.  I’m looking for an upgrade at QB, so Romo or Pennington can go in the deal.  Everybody on the team is available.  Shoot me a PM if you want to try and get something done before the game starts tonight.

Folks are allowed to trade up until 5 minutes before said players game time. For example:

Someone wants to trade M. Colston from the Saints, they have up until 5 minutes before his game tonight.

I hope that explains it for everyone.

As for when the players came available, we had to consider waiting for the original owners to contact (or not contact us) before making their players available.

As for RBs that were available, L. Johnson and W. McGahee were among them. You can check the transactions page to see who did what and what player went where.

Sjon, I might honor that trade request.  Heath Miller is a much better TE than what I have now.  The only problem is that it would put me in the same situation with WRs that I was in before.  As much as I would hate to give either of them up, this trade would only work if I gave up one of my Cincinasty Bungles.  Give me a minute to marinate on that one.

LOL.  Too funny!  I remember the days when I was so concerned about how others felt about my actions that I would cave in just to smack myself upside the head later on.  PRAISE GOD FOR DELIVERANCE!  I'm tryin' to win.  If I feel something makes my team worse and makes an opponent better I say peace out.  If I hold good players on my bench, call me selfish and not right, but also call me the champ at the end of the year.  Just my interpretation of the situation.  A top 5 player for a top 5 player and a top 15 player (with some other stuff thrown in) doesn't even out to me, regardless of what's on my bench.

Is that wrong?  Maybe  ::)

On a different note, I wonder how many people's heart rates went up last night when Addai was down for more than 5 seconds on the first play of the game?  LOL.

Burress and Romo right now have put 8 TD's on the board.  Any way I can save some of these points for later in the season?

Well, for those teams that lost, are losing in week 1, don't take it too hard.  Fantasy football is always up and down.  there's no way Steven Jackson's going to play like that all season.  And there's no way Romo scores 6 touchdowns everyday.  Just re-evaluate your team a little and get ready for next week.  And there's still some football left for tonight.

Romo scored 5 TDs. 4 via the air: Owen (2); Witten (1); Hurd (1); and he ran for a score, as well. ;)

Yea, that Steven Jackson 'no work in the preseason' mantra: BIG BUST!!  Kinda hard gettin' 2500 yds from scrimmage playin' like LenDale White. ::) :-\

And, isn't it interesting how cats who's teams are winning in FF or, when their team is winning, invariably come on LGM to, underhandly, talk smack. ::)

Besides, I'm partially encouraging myself.  I'm down 25 points in my league with my friends and brothers from college.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can give you Stallworth without similar caliber WR in return (without a week 5 bye).  My only choices at WR to give up are Chad Johnson or T.J. Houseonfire.  Otherwise, I'll be stuck out of luck in week 5.  I'll put up my offer tonight when I get home.  I have to rally my Outlaws together and set up a game plan before we take on...who do I play this week?

*Coach Doubles stops todays practice in order to alert his Outlaws to look up at the sky.*

"What's that over there above my wide receivers?"

It appears as though there are three vultures circling over my WR portion of practice.  One looks like rayjohnson83.  Another looks like musiqisme26.  The third is a rather OL-ish looking vulture appearing extremely hungry for something with stripes.  :D

I believe Carson Palmer very well could have.  I'm not sure who owns 315's Finest but my Outlaws had to have thrashed him.  I haven't checked the final score yet.  Just know that all these players were in my starting line up this week:

Jamal Lewis     28 car, 215 yds; 1 TD
Willie Parker    23 car, 126 yds; 1 TD
Chad Johnson  11 rec, 209 yds; 2 TD
Isaac Bruce    8 rec, 145 yds
Ravens D/ST   4 sacks, 2 INT, 1 FR; 13pts allowed

I might have won by nearly a hundred points.

I would say that qb's are rated too heavily, but 6 touchdowns is 6 touchdowns no matter how you score it.  Until some defenses start stepping up there's going to be some crazy fantasy scores this season.

No one said that he was. BUT, he's better than Marcus Pollard. So, Dubs had a "need" at that one position and I at another; ergo, we dealt.

Well folks, Week 3 of this fantasy football season brings us a very intriguing matchup.  Two of the highest scoring teams in the league in ThoseWeDoNotSpeakOf vs 9-ers-R-Back.  The former features a balanced attack led by Tony Romo, who has been blazing the fantasy scene in the first two weeks.  He is backed by an outstanding running back tandem of Shaun Alexander and Larry Johnson, studs in their own right.  A compliment of wide receivers including perennial fantasy high scorers Reggie Wayne, Plaxico Burress, the ever consistent Hines Ward, and the young upstart Bernard Berrian have also played well, while the 2007 version of the Minnesota Wrecking Crew has scored defensive touchdowns in the first 2 games.

The 9ers feature two top 5 quarterbacks in Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer.  Unfortunately for the 9ers only one can play at a time.  Who else is on this team?  Who knows.  It’s reminiscent of the early Michael Jordan/Chicago Bulls where it was just Jordan and a group of nobody’s.  Can the stud quarterback theory triumph over the balanced attack?  Tune in Tuesday to find out!

I didn't even see my final score.  All I remember is that I was up by 29 points going into the evening game.  All of my players had finished and my opponent still had Chicago RB Adrian Peterson and Dallas WR Terrell Owens left to play.

You know sjon, I appreciate the 82 receiving yards Heath Miller hooked me up with (Tomlin could have at least had him in the game when Tuman caught the TD).  But as I watched the Seahawks/Bengals game and saw that T.J. Housh------ had 119 rec yds and a TD at halftime, a brotha had to go punch on the heavy bag for a minute or two.

I don't know the final score, but it was over before it started.  We made a valiant attempt to make it respectable at the end though.  Congrats to the 9ers.  Thank goodness this isn't college football where one loss ruins your season!

thank you john kerry, um i mean Favps. i know conceding is never easy but you were my only threat and i made your team look like Sjon and Doubles teams. Keep your head you'll always be my Favorite #2....

Here's your trouble. Because you're team is already strong, no one (with good sense) is going to give you THEIR best (or even competing) WR/RB combo JUST for Peyton Manning. Palmer's been putting up better fantasy numbers thus far.

Don't mind me, I'm just musing outloud.

While you're musing, can you put in a call to Donte Stallworth and remind that brotha that he's supposed to be playing football this season?  He's been sucking the life out of me the past two weeks.

It'll be a conference call: to him, Frank Gore, S. Jax (who needs to find a little thing I like to call, the ENDZONE), LJ, LT, etc.

this is the B.S. that sjon gave for vetoing my trade and i think it is a conflict of interest for him to have control over my team and on the week he has to play me and both his reason are stupid and make no sense

1. Garcia is more valuable to team Lamonte than owens similar to the Heath miller for Housh trade but yet that some how made it thru guess our fair commissioner felt good about that one oh yea that was his deal. garcia has more points and team lamontes best qb is losman so garcia gave him a comeup

2. he was right about a team being at a disadvantage, His team.

there are 2 commissioners and if there is a situation or decision that his team is involved he shouldnt be able to decide and the other commish should make the call

i dunno maybe this sounds too much like right!

First, I consulted with favpsalm about this. Due to his schedule, he hasn't been able to give me an informed answer.

Second, if after he and I consult, he feels that my decision was unfair, then I have NO problem reversing it.

Third, the trade, in and of itself, in my opinion puts Team Lamonte in an unfavorable and uncompetitive situation FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON.

Four, your team is not hurting in any one area. Your team is the highest scoring team in the league.

Fifth, Team Lamonte doesn't seem to have a problem with my decision, as I haven't heard from him saying, 'Yo man, I really, really NEED Jeff Garcia!! Don't worry about, I'll be cool"  etc etc.

Sixth, this is really very childish of you; I'm disappointed. :-\

Seventh, now that you've made your tantrum public, if the rest of league, whom this trade also affects, has no problem with it, then I'll allow it; even without Favpsalm's input on the matter.

Eighth, don't you ever come at my neck again concerning my integrity. It is something that I hold in high regard, and those who actually KNOW me, would tell you the same.

In regards to this post, I accept your apology.

With regards to your team, I find it very difficult to believe that your team is going to 'suffer' because one of your RBs has a bye this week.

If you examine your past wins, they haven't been because of your RBs OR Jeff Garcia. And, if you were looking for RBs, then why not trade for his RBs, as opposed to, his fantasy points leader?

In addition, Team Lamonte even with T.O. is weak, at the WR position and even with a upgrade at QB, their still a weak team overall.

Furthermore, your injured WR isn't going to miss the remainder of the season. So, I was thinking long term (i.e. playoffs) while I was thinking about the good of the league.

Andre Johnson, Randy Moss AND T.O.?!??!!?? :o :o :o :o :o Let's just give you the trophy now and call it a day. ::) :-\ ;D

Even YOU have to see that's way too much fire power for ONE team to have combined with Manning and Palmer? PREESH!!

You could win with that combo ALONE!!! :-\  :o

You wouldn't NEED RBs; they'd be icing on your cake. :-\
Again, that's what I based my decision on; and I stand by my last comment, if the rest of the members of the league feel that I have, in some way, slighted you and they find the trade agreeable, I have NO problems reversing my decision.

None whatsoever.

I hope we're still good, in general. After all, it's JUST a game. ;) :D

BTW, trade or no trade, I'm probably STILL gonna get smashed on Sunday, ANYWAY. :-\ :D

I, for one, don't have a problem with the trade.  One thing I like about fantasy football is that we play the role of GM, without the impact of salary caps.  To that end, there will always be GM's that have a way of putting together great teams.  I don't think they should be penalized for doing so, even if the person(s) they do business with are put at a competitive disadvantage.  This is coming from someone who obviously stinks as a GM, but I'm not gonna hate on the 9ers squad if the GM makes good moves.  My vote- if it's ok with Lamonte, then it's ok with me.  Hopefully, I'll play Lamonte later this season.   ;D

WHEW!  I got a quick minute to say something about this.  First of all, if Team Lamonte feels that it is justifiable and he needs those players that bad, then it's on him. Personally I would tough it out or wait for a QB controversy/injury to unfold.  As long as this isn't a case of a team dumping off all their good players for junk because they don't feel like playing anymore (seems like that happened last year) then so be it.  the strong are getting stronger, but that's the way it is sometimes.  I wish I could expound more, but I can't right now.  Gotta finish my babyback ribs before lunch is over  ;D

doesnt look like you'll have too many wounds to worry about.........whats really funny its gonna come down to QB's and WR's for us.......but its kinda in my favor

heres my outlook

both watson and welker wont be gamebreakers for us but what they put in will be like a bonus. the real story will be your combo of housh and brady and my combo of moss and palmer.......moss success is dependent on brady and housh on palmer my advantage will probaly be that housh has to compete with chad johnson for catches and moss well he has welker again he isnt a concern.......this is also a toss-up the pats defense is probaly the best in the league is a double edged sword for you

Sadly, I see your point. The only scenario that really works for me is that Palmer throws to Housh because Chad is blanketed, while Brady throws to Welker because Moss is blanketed.

Other than that, it's pretty much a wrap for me.  :(

The only disadvantage of having two stud qb's like that.  If this were a 2-QB league it would have been over on draft day.

Disadvantage? The only 'concern' is figuring out which stud is going to have the better day/matchup.

WOW!!

I've got the highest point total for this week.  And I KNEW I was going to lose this week.  If any team had these players on one squad, who would believe this team could be a strong force in the NFL?

QB Ben Roethlisberger
RB Thomas Jones
RB Kenton Keith
WR Laveranues Coles
WR Jerricho Cotchery
WR Ike Hilliard
TE Chris Baker
PK Morten Andersen
Def Titans, Team Defense

Look at this team.  Just look at it.  C'mon.  Over 130 was scored by THIS team.  Are you serious?

Why couldn't the Colts defense hold Maurice Jones-Drew to maybe just 15 less yards last night.  I lost by one doggone point behind that trash.

i have 2 questions regarding scoring

i just noticed the maurice jones-drew scored on a kick return but did receive any points is that how it suppose to be?

also the chargers Def. scored on a missed FG but didnt get any points why wouldnt the Def. get any points?

these dont affect me but i was just wondering.

The MJD kick return is credited to the Jags defense, not the individual who ran for the score.

As for the Chargers, it was a missed FG, not a blocked FG. Because of the difference, AOL doesn't make allowances for scoring in that manner. I don't know why.

You know what's funny? The Pats can go down, all they want, as LONG as Tom Brady continues to throw 3-4 TDs, and about 250-300 yards in the Pats loss, I'm good. ;)  :D :D

Peyton Manning hasn't seen 63 points all season, to my knowledge. And, if he does, he'd better be throwing to Reggie Wayne. ;)

(Local LGM sports reporter) Coach musiqisme26 your team suffered an upset defeat from a team no one gave a chance to, what happened?

(Coach Musiqisme26) They are who we thought they were!

(Local LGM sports reporter) I think we all believed there would be a showdown between Coach Sjon and yourself, especially after 1 point loss to his team earlier in the year. Do you feel anyone can stop them now?

(Coach Musiqisme26) I dont see how anyone can as everyone trade him there good players at the end of the season but I said earlier, "They are who we thought they were!"

Congrats to FavPs. and everyone else who won in the playoffs and I cant wait to next year this was fun

Yes it was fun!  Sjon avenges the loss I gave him to open the season.  It was a good run for the Outlaws.  We just have to do some better conditioning next year.  Ending a season on three straight losses is unacceptable.

*looking at the score*

Doggone it!  When you score 126 points, you're supposed to win the game.   ::)

Your side of the discussion would have merit if I actually used Joseph Addai for the playoffs.

The one game in which I did use him, I'dve been better off using my backup.;)  8)

I'm just hoping that the "bottom-seed phenomenon" doesn't hit me this week. :o :-\

I don't believe it!  Not only did I sneak into the playoffs with a losing record, but I actually won a first round game!  That miracle water I got from the infomercial must really be working!   ;D

Man, I've got to renew my order of miracle water from General overseer bishop doctor deacon evangelist apostle HolierthanthouamI!  If my current 9 point lead and the running of Adrian Pererson (the Chicago version) can hold of the mighty 1.8 ppg average of Devon Hester and the 7.9 ppg average of Gould, I'll have my 2nd consecutive upset playoff victory.
