if you are a ministry leader that has inhierited a ministry group that is not let's say  :? up to speed as far as talent and anointing and bible knowledge goes what would be the first thing you do to assure success in that ministry?

If at all possible define the term ministry in 20 words or less.

lastly should we consider all who play music in church as being in ministry?

just some thoughts to get this board going.

1. Choir is a ministry.

2. Auxillaries that are working for the edificatoin of the Body of Christ is
    a ministry.

3.  Giving out tracks is a ministry.

4.  Answering pray requests on the telelphone is a ministry.

5.  Church musician is a minister of music.

6.  LGM is a ministry.

7.  Going to the prison to tell others about Christ is a prison
     ministry.

8.  Bible study is a bible ministry.

9.  Visiting the sick and shut in is a ministry.

10. Planning programs for the youth to learn more about Christ
      is a youth ministry.

I can go on and on, but I will make it simply, if you do anything that is going to give God the glory and not for self gain, that will edify or build the body of Christ - it is a ministry.  :D

For the second part:

If a person is not up to speed when they enter the ministry what can they do?

Everybody who enter the ministry isn't up to speed - they have to grow. Just as a person who starts a new job - they have to learn that position even if they did the same job some place else. Ministry is a learning process, if you are motivated, have a relationship with God, will dedicate yourself to that position and pray, you are ready.  :D

I believe ministry is all about service. Can you be humble/humiliated for Christ. When you want to go off on people and yet you smile and pray for them.  Ministry is cleaning the toliets on Wednesday because no one else will and still being able to lay hands on the sick for them to recover

Amen, I must agree with Sis Joy and Sis Redd. Ministry is simply service.

I remember when the LORD told me "You can't build a ministry. All you can do is feed sheep."

And I've found out I can't do that unless GOD enables me everystep of the way.

Ministry = service to GOD and GOD's people.

Be Blessed, er'body  :D

My definition of Ministry is simple...WORK.... or as others put it Service, but it does take a lot of work sometimes, especially if certain principles and precepts aren't already set up in the Church, it takes work to get those things up and functioning.
God doesn't want your gifts. He wants your life...

Ministry = service
To minister = to serve

When a preacher preaches, he is serving God and seving the congregation.

When an usher, guides and directs, he/she is serving.

When I come in and clean the church, when no one else will, that is ministry.

Ministry is not only from a platform, it is everyday service.  God has called us all to serve Him and one another.  That is ministry.
