Bass: Let The Praise Begin - Fred Hammond
« on: August 28, 2004, 12:41:08 PM »
Here's a video of me playing Let The Praise Begin by Fred Hammond. I just learned it yesterday, so it's still a little rusty. Anyway, tell me what you guys think.

Thanks

Thanks. I don't have a bass amp. That's the reason the bass sounds kinda thin. At home, I play through a leslie that I built (no bottom rotor and the top is seperate so it works fine) and at church, I play through the system...our bass amp got broken somehow.  :? I don't know when it'll be fixed. I may end up buying my own soon though.

The bass is a mutt, Sergovia 4 string. I have it strung B-E-A-D, without the G string. I have the nut redone to accomidate the larger strings. It actually doesn't sound too bad, to me. It's actually deeper than my 5 string, a Peavey Grind. I play the peavey more, but I loaned it out, so I'm playing this one until I get the other back.

As someone who has only been playing the bass for a little over a year, I really enjoyed watching your video. It really helps seeing some one close up working the fret board and using the slap technique. I have a peavy 5 string and I am just beginning to try the slapping and one problem that I am trying to overcome is hitting twi strings at the same time because of the closeness of the strings. I plan to keep practing and eventually move to a bass with more spacing between the strings

Thanks. Now I just need  to get a bass amp. I haven't been practicing at home much, since I hate the sound that comes from the speaker that I use. Once I get a bass amp, which should be within the next couple months, I'll make more videos. I've been learning some good techniques from our bass player.

Hey what's up my brother i checked out your video and you sound real good. If i may just give you a little constructive critism. And please excuse me if i offend you or i'm over stepping my boundaries. But the notes that your playing in  the vamp "the ending" when the song is in Eb. your almost playing the right notes but your a little off. what your playing is Eb is your bottom note then you play  Ab, and you kinda walk it to the Bb and then to Gb and you walk it to Eb
try these notes with the same rythm and you'll have it

Eb Gb Ab Bb Db(on third string if it's a 5 string bass)  Eb (on same string)
and your 4 string bass is tuned in E that's ok
i'm just saying the notes i gave you are correct if you need any help hit me back and i'll help you
the song is in a minor and you're playing some major notes

Thanks. Don't worry. I'm not easily offended.   I don't mind "constructive" critism.

This video is kinda old news now. I can play it a lot better than I did when I first learned it. I am kind of unclear on what you meant in your post though. Did you mean to say that it modulates between the Eb and Gb as the bottom note? or something else?

I really didn't understand this part: "Eb Gb Ab Bb Db(on third string if it's a 5 string bass) Eb (on same string) and your 4 string bass is tuned in E that's ok "

My 4 string is setup as B-E-A-D. I had it restringed. When I get a bass amp or borrow our bass players amp, I'll remake the vid. It is a little rough.

Hmm...Interesting. I'll check it out.

I just noticed that my cd starts in Dbm, but the video starts in Dm. Now I'm trying to find the cd that I used for the video....hmm. Oh well....

Great video.  I don't know if you purchased a bass cabinet yet and I was wondering if you ever heard of the avatar line of speakers. Here is the website for them www.avatarspeakers.com Check them out if you're not familar with them. For the price they are the best out there. These are the only speakers I'll be using until I hit the big-time.
