Deleted/Locked Post
« on: January 26, 2008, 09:46:28 AM »
I have noticed lately an increase in locked or deleted post, my question is what determines this action & is it possible that if one person does something wrong that thier individual post can be deleted & not the whole thread? I mean this with no disrespect.

No disrepect here either, but it seems that LGM has habbit of erring on the side of catuion.  And this is not uniqe to this site either.  Other Christian sites have limits as to how far one can go with a given topic which varies according to the culture of that paritcular web community.  And then you have to consider that ther are minors who are on  these sites and perhpas their parents (or even the minors themselves) may find certain discussions to be offensive or confusing at best.

I understand the minor thing but we as parents should monitor our children. I do agree that no cursing or insults should be allowed but can those individual posts be deleted?

I'm not touching the topic, Pastor Jeff.  But, I will say that I think it might be about time for some sort of a "town hall meeting," not regarding locked threads, but regarding any concerns that have arisen.  Even privately held companies/organizations can benefit from the input of their rank and file members/employees/clients.

I'd pm a mod or site owner for clarification without opening a can of worms.  There used to be a sticky post on this subject. Stayed at the top for a WHILE but I have no idea where it is.

I just took a look at the stats and

This month, 15,291 new posts started this month, about 42 have been deleted.  Thats a whopping 0.2%

In December, 14,375 new posts were started, about 18 were deleted. That is about 0.1%

I will have a talk with the moderators.  :)

As you can tell, I'm being a little sarcastic.  :) But for real, do you really think thats a lot??  Moderators are moderated, I am moderated, the community is moderated.

There are just some topics we avoid, from experience because we have people of all ages, experience, education, etc.... and some people do not know how to have a mature conversation or base what they say on fact.  Its just that way of the internet.

Amen!

LGM has never been a shrinking violet when it comes to discussing issues; however, there must be ORDER. At work, Church, home and everywhere there are rules that must be enforced. What happens is you have people who get upset because they are rebuked and want to lash out. As you can see from the facts that VERY few threads are deleted and/or locked.

If I may humbly submit...

Pastor Jeff's point didn't seem (TO ME) to be about too many threads being locked... though he mentioned his perception of an increase in the locking of threads, it was a precursor to his question about whether moderators could consider another alternative (deleting the offensive posts instead of locking or deleting the entire thread).

I'm not getting into this, I'm just clarifying what I perceived his question to be so that we don't get lost in proving that not many threads get locked in the first place, which is clearly true.

Respectfully submitted.

Well what about the case of two or three of my threads about a particular Prophetess and her situation being deleted?  In that case, I feel that it was about a person not wanting to see negative info about someone that the person may have had a personal admiration for.  I may be wrong, but that is what I feel.  I said nothing outrageous, profane, or disrespectul about this indidvidual.  I felt highly disrespected because we should have the right to discuss our so called and self appointed religious leaders especially when they go against what they preach/teach.

So has this conversation reached the point where SPECIFIC inquiries should be sent via PM to one of the founders....isn't that ORDER?  Just trying to keep the playground safe.

Not speaking for the owner of the site, but it would seem that he has addressed your query in the post above.

MOT is a good example of what I think JDH was trying to say. There were some off posts; not the entire thread; but (now Im jumping on the mods side) I do think it had to be locked because it was the common meeting spot for those exchanged words. How can you have a turf war with no turf? So I think it was prudent an good foresight in the MOT thread.

Keep up the good work mods!

Thank you Larue for the clarification, I in no way mean any disrespect to 4HG or any one else, I am fairly new to message boards & I truly enjoy the topics on this site it helps me to think & to study how others think which makes me a well rounded person. It was my attempt to understand the process Prov 4:7 ;). Thanks for making this site available.

God Bless,
Pastor Jeff
