What to Learn how to Play samba and latin styles?

Next week i will be bring how to's, on latin rythim, to help any drummers that want to know whats is samba and the clave, you could implement them to your style of play.......

lets get started!

what is salsa, samba or latin jazz

Salsa is played not in 2/4 beat but in 2/2 beat 2/4 will be played in latin jazz
so its 1 and 2 and 1 and 2 and

now to play the latin rhythmic, i highly recommend to get a percussionist set up, and have him learn the latin sytles on the conga, and timbales. its essential to have these afro-cuban rhythms in ever latin style music.

in latin music the percussion and drums are playing on the offbeat!

here is a simple salsa beat on the drums
d-bass drum
p-snare
x-high hat
^-accent


were gonna take it slow
beat 4/4
   ^ ^ ^
d p d-d       its going to sound like  da da dada
     (double)

lots of accents are in latin styles of music. in kirk franklin rebirth when their sing Are God is Awesome God, you could here the drummer playing this beat, in the part of the song when the latin rhythms come out. also watch the video and the end their is a salsa part.

Practical

adding the high hat
(basic Pattern)
beat 4/4 gradually move fast
