Well i don't play the bass but on the piano it's called a progression.  It's just a way of getting from one place to another.  so i'm guessin on the bass whatever key you in and you want to do a progression like a 3-6-2
u hit the 3 of the key u in to the 6 and the 6 to the 2, but i'm not sure.  Hopefully someone will respond and clear up my answer. Just tryin to help :D

Lord don't move the mountain but give me the strength to climb.

:D HERE IS HOW IT GOES!... FOR EXAMPLE IN THE KEY OF C MAJOR
THERE IS A CHORD THAT IDEALY WOULD GO WITH EACH NOTE OF THE C MAJOR SCALE!..(THIS IS NOT WRITTEN IN STONE!!!!)
EACH OF THESE HAS A CHORD THAT GOES WITH IT!

EACH OF THE 7 NOTES IN THE SCALE IS GIVEN A NUMBER!
C=1     D=2     E=3    F=4    G=5   A=6    B= 7

FOR C WHICH IS CALLED THE “1” THE CHORD IS C MAJOR! THE NOTES IN IT ARE C-E-G!

FOR D WHICH IS CALLED THE “2” THE CHORD IS D MINOR! THE NOTES IN IT ARE D-F-A!

FOR E WHICH IS CALLED THE “3” THE CHORD IS E MINOR! THE NOTES IN IT ARE E-G-B!

FOR F WHICH IS CALLED THE “4” THE CHORD IS F MAJOR! THE NOTES IN IT ARE F-A-C!

FOR G WHICH IS CALLED THE “5” THE CHORD IS G MAJOR! THE NOTES IN IT ARE G-B-D!

FOR A WHICH IS CALLED THE “6” THE CHORD IS A MINOR! THE NOTES IN IT ARE A-C-E!

FOR B WHICH IS CALLED THE “7” THE CHORD IS B DIMINISHED! THE NOTES IN IT ARE B-D-F!

HOPE THIS HELPS!
