Mali's Heart Song.  The part where he speaks in tongues, but it's like written into the song... WITW?

Better by The Murrills

Donald Lawrence Presents The Murrills

Why do you think it has no meaning?
this joint gets a pass from me. Dude did minister the joint, and its based off of scripture. Furthermore Ive been following D Lawrence and this faith movement his songs have taken over the last few years, so I get it and its ok. It still doesnt have a place in place in worship, but I could see a choir being effective with it. And he even said God, when he was ministering which is more than ever went on in Shifting the Atmosphere. btw, have I mentioned how much I dislike that song. lol

Yeah "Better" is definitely not a church song; I would call it inspirational.

I hated that song for years and years, and one day, the bridge popped in my head out of the clear blue, so I put the DVD in, and decided it wasn't that bad. I ended up listening to it over and over and eventually decided I loved all the changes in the song. It's not my favorite song, but I do like it enough.

I'm not a fan of shifting the atmosphere and I'm not a fan of the song, either. ;) I think Christians have overspiritualized that concept and I absolutely hate it.

Mali's Heart Song has tongues written in???? **heads off to YouTube**

The female singer from the group that sings "Better" sounds like a cross between Juanita Bynum and Tina Turner.

Mali Music - Hearts Song

Now some of the comments said that he's not speaking in tongues, but speaking Hebrew. I don't know Hebrew so I really have no idea. I wonder if my Jewish coworker would be offended if I asked him.

Thats my song! LOL

While shes my fav artist right now (because of the person she is, not necessarily from a music aspect) I gotta throw Jessica Reedy's "Blue God" in the mix.  ?/?

Yeah I don't get Blue God either

LOL! My interpretation of the song is that God is sad when we don't do what we're suppose to do.

Idk though. But yeah I could see why this song may not make any sense...LMBO!

Never heard the song, but I just read the lyrics and I agree with you.

Blue = sad.

I'm pretty sure my co-worker speaks Hebrew. His son is in Hebrew school, and I think it's pretty safe to assume he went to Hebrew school too. When I was in elementary school, EVERY Jew in my school went to Hebrew school. I thought it was standard for most Jews.

The lyrics on the CD jacket say "utterance" during that part.  He'd have to explain that to me.  I mean, did the Spirit give you a specific utterance to sing as part of the song?  Or will it be different every time you sing it, but your spirit will kick into your "heavenly language" right at that point in the song?

Ohhhhhhh. Yikes. :-\ Idk about that... ?/?

But wait, that raises an interesting discussion (I think). If you become familiar with your own tongues, through repetition, is it wrong to repeat those phrases/words/sentences at any time? Since the Spirit still gave utterance, why couldn't you say it whenever you want to? For example, in my prayer group, the one who led this morning speaks in the same tongues each time. We all know her tongues, and could say them along with her if we wanted to :D (I'm being silly, but you get the point). So would it be wrong for her, if she was worshiping to just recite her own tongues? And in that case, to sing them in a song?

I don't know so I can't comment, lest I find myself on the wrong side of right.

I guess thats what people standing in the prayer line feel when the preacher is speaking in tongues in front of them, and not praying in English. weird

I don't think that's the same thing.

I've had people pray 'over me' (or in front of me) in tongues and it didn't feel weird at all. I just try the spirit and typically conclude that the Spirit is making intercession on my behalf through the person who is praying for me.

Ok.  Now this has nothing to do with this current thread, but a previous thread.  I said about 1.5 months ago, I am not grooving to a gospel song or christian music.  I can't do my bedroom talk and if the shout comes on I am in trouble.

                                                                   (DJ Record Scratch)
                                                            BUT THIS SONG RIGHT HERE.........

Can definitely change the game.  You can say what you want, but this song is a definite _______ dropper.  You say it's spiritual?  It's spiritual alright, my wife will be in such a trance from the background music, anything is liable to happen.  I really can't say what I want because I am on a gospel website.  But If I ever meet some of you in person, I will definitely tell you how I really feel about this song.  I know some of yall, got real "Prince like" when you heard this song. #itsalrightyoucouldn'thelpit

Now back to regular topic of the thread....

Some Israel Houghton songs I like.

Several our Praise team sings -

Again I Say Rejoice
Friend of God
Friend
If Not for Your Grace
That's Why I Love You
You are Good

On others, the lyrics often stray into self-help/affirmation/WordFaith territory.

Ya nasty... :D

I stopped at the trance part, covered my eyes, and shouted "La, la la la la la la! La la la la la la!  Can't hear you!!"  I don't even want to listen to the song now.  Lol!

As for my contribution to the thread, an oldie but goodie to the "Makes No Sense" Music Hall of Fame:  "Coach Bag" by Rachel Wilson.
