Jazzy chords

Anyone have any jazz chords tips to implement in my playing.

mengt, welcome to the LGM website.

If you want a jazzy flava, you will wont to use chords like

C7#5 = C E G# Ab

or any of the larger chords like C7#9 or even C7b9.

Also, I think in Jazz, they "do not double" there notes so u probably don't want to tdo that

I just wanted to ask were there any particular keys that you use each chord in.  I am not at my piano right now.

Sam,

I have very small hands.  My father played guitar and he has small hands.  So when you have these types of chords I can't hit them.  Are there any chords I can substitute these for to still get the full effect of them?
How would I split the right hand to play with both hands and still play the bass on a keyboard??

The L.H. shouldn't be that hard. Sam's playing power chords (using the 1 and the 5) or he's playing the dominant 7th shell ( the 1, 3, b7). Now, if your hands are too small for the shell, then stick to the power chords.

As for the right hand, what I do is eliminate some of the doubled notes. For example:


Sam's chord:

G D / A B D Gb B

Jonathan's version:

G D / A Gb  or G D / A B D Gb (I would play the A & B with my thumb.)


Play around with the chords and see how using my variation works for you. It's all about finding a comfortable feel for you.

I will eliminate some notes but I hope I don't lose the fullness sound of the chord.

I'll post the smaller chords I come up with. :-)  thanks again.

These are good. But combine them and make the C7#5#9.

or better yet, dont play the 1 & 5 in the left hand. Play the tritone ( the 3 & b7). For example:
BF/GABDGb    (This is a G^9 chord)

Nice rewrite...I have stretch from C to F so these chords are easy for me.  I'll post some new chords more compact. Let me get to my keyboard. I'll post a video also.
