« on: July 20, 2006, 02:33:56 PM »
Im looking at buying another four string

The bass im lookin at is the MTD 435 (Maple Burl on Swamp Ash).
Obviously this is a nice guitar, but for the money do you think its worth it or could the money be spent more wisely ?

MTD basses are one of the best brands in the business.  You won't go far wrong if you added it to your arsenal!  They are good investments too.  They hold their value very well in good condition, not that a lot of MTD customers want to get rid of theirs...just do a search on Ebay and you will get the picture!  I had one, a really nice 24 fret 535 myrtle burl on poplar with a wenge neck and fingerboard, but was stolen in Hann Airport, Germany just over three years back  :'(.  I bought it as a studio only instrument and the only time I decided to take it out on the road with me it gets lifted!

Have you played it yet?  As good as I think MTD basses are, you may disagree.  It's a lot a cash to blow away if you don't get what you want out of it.  It's a custom made precision instrument that was more than likely made for a customer to his/her specs, unless it's an ex-demo show model.  You always have to bare that in mind when buying a custom ordered instrument built for someone else because it's easy to become disapointed further down the road.
