You say the Bible is the Word of God, so...
« on: March 08, 2007, 11:04:43 AM »
If the bible is the Word of God, and we know the Lord doesn't change His mind on things, then do you do this? It sounds like correct restitution to me. If this is what the Lord expects, and now you've read it, isn't it sin for you to not do it. It sounds reasonable.

On top of that, if the Bible is the Word of God, shouldn't you go over every sentence and look for stuff like this to make sure you don't miss anything? After all, it's the WORD OF GOD, and God doesn't change. Right?

Am I understanding you'all right on this?

Leviticus 6

1 The LORD said to Moses: 2 "If anyone sins and is unfaithful to the LORD by deceiving his neighbor about something entrusted to him or left in his care or stolen, or if he cheats him, 3 or if he finds lost property and lies about it, or if he swears falsely, or if he commits any such sin that people may do- 4 when he thus sins and becomes guilty, he must return what he has stolen or taken by extortion, or what was entrusted to him, or the lost property he found, 5 or whatever it was he swore falsely about.

I think all of this is covered under, "Thou shalt not steal", and "Thou shalt not bear false witness" but I could be wrong.

Anyway, I'm prayin' for you, bruh.

I think you're right. But what about the finding part? Ever find something and keep it? That's what I bolded there.

Anyway, I'm prayin' for you, bruh.

Thank you! That's very nice of you to say.  ;D

Well, referencing your quote, it says if you find it and lie about it.  That's different.  Further if you truly find something, you have no idea who the owner is to even return it.  Most reasonable christians who find something and know who it belongs to would just return it.  Most reasonable christians who find something and have a way to find out who it belongs to will do that, too.  If you find lost property and then lie about it, you know you've committed a sin by lying to cover up keeping something that you know belongs to someone else.

On another note, your quote says that God said this to Moses.  Are you denying it is the Word of God even though the scripture clearly notes that God said it?  What better definition of the Word of God, than words that actually proceeded out of the mouth of God?

If you're really seeking an answer to your question, Nessa covered it.

If you're trying to use this as way to try to come sideways against the infallibility of the Word of God, then I'm sure you know what most of us think about that...

There are many places in the bible where it clearly says God told somebody something. I consider that scripture and the Word of God for them. For those of us with the Holy Spirit the Word of God gets written on the flesh of our hearts.

Does that mean that there's nothing of use in there for us? Absolutely not! What I'm saying is that the term "Word of God" is being misused today. The Word of God doesn't come to us through priests, books, or any other form of "second hand knowledge". It gets written to our hearts by the Holy Spirit.

Knowledge? Absolutely! Scripture? Absolutely, especially when it's written something like "thus saith God"! Wisdom? Absolutely! Word of God? Jesus is the Word of God and the Holy Spirit writes His words on our hearts. He'll also use the Wisdom and Knowledge we've received from the bible to do it, among other things.

Some speak like the bible and the Word of God are the same thing. The bible is a book. The Word of God is living and experiencial. It's exciting!

To some this seems like heresy, even blasphemy, but this experiencial relationship is written about in the bible. I beleived what I read and asked the Lord about it. He then wrote that knowledge I had read with my mind onto my heart and spirit.

The Word of God is Jesus. Read the first chapter in the Gospel of John and see if this is so.

2Ti 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

You make a circular argument.  Even if the above scripture only references the OT as you have stated many times before, this very post would indicate that you don't even believe that.  No one is arguing Jn 1:1, I believe it whole-heartedly, and I also believe II Timothy 3:16.

You make your point using Jn 1:1, but all of your arguments state that you question the validity of that scripture and all scripture.  How do you even know that God is writing anything on your heart if you don't start with his written Word?  Without it you have no basis or foundation for any of your arguments, as all of our knowledge of God and who Jesus is gets it's foundation in the Bible.  The Holy Spirit didn't come and tell you that Jesus was the son of God, born of a virgin, crucified, risen and our only hope for salvation.  THE BIBLE TOLD YOU THAT.

Your 1st sentence is off so I have to assume the rest might be as well. God can and does change his mind all of the time. But He can do that because He is God. :P

Truth.  God changed his mind.  It's scriptural.

Hammer... how in the world can you believe that the "Word of God", God Himself, can wrap himself in flesh and walk this earth, but can't manifest himself in written text?

Your 1st sentence is off so I have to assume the rest might be as well. God can and does change his mind all of the time. But He can do that because He is God. :P

Often what happens is that, for example we get out of the way of God's wrath when we get right and humble ourselves before him.  God didn't change his mind in those cases, but WE are the ones that changed.  How many stories are there where destruction was headed toward a person or people, and they get themselves in order... fasting, praying, seeking Him... and in doing that, avoided destruction?
