Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow...Reverence?
« on: July 24, 2008, 01:16:46 AM »
Many drummers at LGM have much respect for the "seasoned" drummers who were doin' big 25 years ago or more, and are still doin it.

But my question is, when you look at the crop of young drummers of today who are maybe in their early 20's more or less, do you think they will be looked highly upon, honored, & revered 25 years from now in the same manner the guys 25 years ago are? 8)

In my opinion it's the innovators that make a mark and are remembered. The seasoned drummers are remembered bcause they took drumming/music to a whole different level/direction (Max Roach, Elvin, Tony Williams etc.). I believe music itself was much more artistic and creative in the 50's, 60's and 70's than it is now. Today's popular music is based on money so creativity is sacrificed for record sales and radio play. This attitude breeds clones. Now,instead of finding your own voice, you need to sound like Joe Blow over there who sold 20 million cd's

So to answer your question I believe a few of todays drummers will be remembered but not nearly as much as the older cats...
