I'm sad.  Pastor appreciation starts tonight, so I won't be in the number.  Good thing we're recording ;D

Tonight's study will be facilitated by one of our favorite bass players, and just the all-out kindest brother I know, BassbyGrace.

Most of you know BBG to be grounded, reasonable and wise, balanced by his timely sense of humor and use of scripture or anecdotes as appropriate. BBG is the proud husband of one beautiful wife, and they reside in northern MD with their lovely little girl, who puts herself to bed (making BBG and Mrs. BBG the envy of parents far and near).  In addition to being one heckuva bass player (so I'm told), he apparently kills the tuba as well... since that's what they pay him to do in the Army. LOL!  BBG's claim to fame is that he has attempted to eat a hamburger the size of a whole cow.  :D  (Maybe he'll put the pic back up for those of you who haven't seen it).

We're really expecting a great word from the Lord tonight, through his servant, BBG. Let's keep him in prayer as we go throughout our day.

By the way, BBG and his family are participating in a Leukemia walk to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and if you can, please support his efforts. Please visit his page at http://pages.lightthenight.org/md/Harford09/theedgelegacy#.  ;D

Wow! I'm so honored (and humored lol) by this. I can hear the organ in the background and everything LOL. I pray the Lord shines through and that all irons be sharpened.
Praise Him!

*Notes From Tonight's Lesson Below*

Title: Fruitful in the Kingdom
Speaker: BassbyGrace

Matthew 7:16-20; Genesis 1:27

Definition of Fruit: edible reproductive body of a seed plant - or, the effect of an action.

Definition of Fruitful: Abundantly productive.

The Bible speaks a great deal of bringing forth fruit and having fruits of the spirit.

You will know them by their fruit - in other words, you will know them by their Character. Character = action or behavior exhibited over a period of time.

Grapes have many different uses and represent edification. They are abundantly productive because they can be produced in various areas. Grapes are also good for you considering what they contain.

Throughout the Bible, fig is seen as one of the main fruits. It was one of the first plants to be cultivated by humans. When Adam and Eve first discovered they were naked, they covered themselves with fig leaves. Figs also contain a high level of antioxidants, meaning they are very good and edifying to the natural body.

The Fig is a fruit, but the flower grows inside instead of outside.

Thistles & Thorns = prickly and easy to cause pain/harm. The opposite of fruit.

There are different kinds of fruit. There are fruits of the spirit (Love, joy, long-suffering, temperance, self-control, etc.). These are found in Galatians 5:22.

We know an Apple Tree because it bears apples. The same for men - by their nature and principles, we know what manner of man they are. There is a correlation between fruit of the spirit and fruit of the natural realm.

Sweet water and bitter water can't run from the same fountain. Men are known by frequent actions that of their own will and by the course of their conversation. The true test of a man is not when things are going well, but when they are going bad - and when they are going bad, will you still exercise fruit of the spirit.

Main fruit = love.

When something is going wrong in our lives, maybe we need to look at our fruit.

Fruit is naturally edifying.

Large consumptions of salt makes one thirsty…if we are the salt of the earth, we should make others thirsty for Christ.

BBG: Bible Study was great! I enjoyed hearing that i need to be fruitful and multiply (<--not in children hahaha).
I especially enjoyed the discussion about the role the Holy Spirit has in helping us produce good fruit! The bible, in Matthew (3:8)talks about bringing forth fruits meet for repentance.. or show proof that you have repented. I am sure that without the Holy Ghost, we can not bring forth fruits (or prooof) meet for repentance, let a lone the several fruits of the spirit. That was indeed a blessing.

AND I almost gave God a praise when we were talking about the "salt"... my eyes were opened, i need to ask the Lord to help me be more savor-ish (whatever the word would be  ?/?).
Since we are the salt of the earth, could this be why Lot's wife turned into a pillar of salt when she deliberately "looked back" at Sodom & Gomorrah? i thought about that last night and kinda chuckled on the inside. lol

This is the type of preaching and teaching we need to hear more in the church about fruit. What is our life showing once we leave the building? The Bible says "a tree is known by the fruit it bears." In other words we are known by what we produce. That's why it saddens me when Ghandi (however you spell his name) says "I like your Christ, I don't like your Christians, they are not like your Christ" (something like that). Point is, if we claim Christ, Christ should show in our lives. Hate to have missed it last night! Good word!

SO TRUE!!!! this (in red) is why it's hard for good, believing, Holy Ghost filled Christians to compell men and women to Christ - people (unbelievers) are steady calling out what's not like Christ and who's being a hyporcrite (however you spell), they forget that it's not the "person" (and their faults or short comings) you should be looking at... people forget that it's THEIR soul that needs salvation! I know no one is perfect, and not every fruit you bear will be perfect/ripe, but the Holy Ghost helps A LOT! many "Chritians" lack the HG... it's a requirement for us to make it to heaven: he's the seal untill the day of redemption.... but doctrine has changed, the message has changed (GOD HAS AND WILL NOT CHANGE) and this is why i believe we have such a problem.  :-\ :'(

Yeah, last night really WAS good. It's (another) one of those lessons that really make you examine yourself and take inventory of your life and fruit and productivity. I fell asleep thinking about it and woke up this morning thinking about it some more.

What am I producing? What am I giving birth to? What kind of tree am I? Do I nurture my "fruit" long enough for it to ripen before going off to fulfill its purpose? What am I multiplying?

Then of course, I'm asking myself is the fruit of the Spirit abundant and apparent in me? When people look at me (or listen to me or read me) do they see gentleness? Meekness? Temperance? Self-control? Do they see goodness? I know what I see in me, but what does everyone else see in me?

Anyway, yeah that was a very good one... thanks, BBG. You put out some big shoes for me to step into next week... lol.

That's a very good question. BTW, I think it was just Sodom she looked back on (not that it matters).

I loved the salt discussion, too. And TJ's sandwich story was excellent!

YES indeeeeed Larue... I also began thinking about a rose bush (I know they dont produce fruit, but buds produce a product of something lol)... but you know how a rose bush does not start off looking as beautiful as they do without a little pruning... (we can not produce the right fruit and be productive unless we are pruned.) pruning is sometimes a tedious journey, well benefitting the rose (<--belivers, you and I) in the end. Gardeners (God) prune roses to encourage new growth (FRUIT), eliminate mal-shaped buds (rotten, spoiled, UNRIGHTEOUS FRUIT) and, to maintain the effervescent beauty of a rose bush. The ultimate goal of pruning is to produce a centered plant that allows air and light to penetrate easily. Without light and air, a rose will fade away... and die...

MY LORD if you can see the analogy as i see it, where are we as believers? Are we getting enough light? are we kicking against the pricks and not heeding to the pruning of our saviour? Are we getting enough "light" and air? G-WIZ..... am i alone - do i have any witnesses? This thing makes me want to get on my knees for a prayer session... Psalms 51.... HERE I COME!

Yep. And that's what Dingster's scripture reference (John 15?) was talking about... the pruning part.  I once taught about the pruning process and how much it hurts to have some things cut away from our lives, but how they help us to grow faster and healthier, making us MORE productive, MORE attractive, MORE effective, MORE useful... yeah, pruning hurts but it's essential to the pursuit of purpose and to achieving wholeness in Him.

A friend of mine once broke down the entire seeding, watering, growth, pruning, harvesting process.... it was RIDICULOUS!!!! I can't remember what I was doing (ushering?? office stuff??), but I didn't get to take notes.  >:( It was SO good!

Good grief... well, we'll come out as pure gold if we allow the pruning process to make us better.... So..... help me Lord... dont help them! LOL! just kidding... we all need help  Jeeeeesus!
