Well tell me something guys. When you are playing, what do you do more of 1) Pumping the pedals or 2) Walking the pedals? (I know that it depends on the song sometimes) But how do you find yourselves playing most of the time? I pump them but whenever I can do a Jimmy Smith man I kick off my high heels and walk them bad boys like I walk my left hand. I even walk my feet to shouting music but I can't do it but for so long then I pump. Holla back

So where is all the expertise coming from? I've been reading your posts and you know more about the B3 than I do and I've had one since it first came out in the early eighties!

One more thing! I have Timberlands too but I never tried playing in them. I would imagine that they are too wide and the soles are too thick to glide, slide, or walk the pedals. But hey I've never tried it so I wouldn't really know!

U HAD IT BEFORE I WAS BORN (IF U HAD IT BEFORE 1984) LOL!!! WHEN I STARTED PLAYING PIANO/ORGAN LIKE 5 YEARS AGO I TRY TO UNDERSTAND THE STRUCTURE OF THE ORGAN...THEN CHORD WISE...I USE PIANO CHORDS ON THE ORGAN BUT I USE THEM TO BECOME FULLER LIKE...

BP / LH / RH
Ab / F# C / F Bb D
G / F B / E A C#
C / E Bb / D G C
F / F C / E G A C

IF I WAS ON PIANO I PROBABLY DO THIS...A VARIATION
Ab / F# C F
G / A B C# E
C Eb B / D F Bb
F A C / G B D

I DON'T KNOW IF IT ANSWER MY QUESTION BUT TRY THE CHORDS!

I USUALLY PLAY IN THEM...I USE THEM IN PLACE OF FOOT WEIGHTS AND IT REALLY HELP ME ON MY FOOT SPEED...U SHOULD TRY IT... AND THE SET OF CHORDS WAS BASICALLY A 2-5-1 IN F...

HA! HA! HA! WATCH YO'SELF! (LOL) I've had my organ since 1981. I've only had organ lessons & I regret that because I really can't play the piano to the point that my music is talking. But I do get over if you know what I mean. But when I started taking lessons my instructor had me playing my chords in my left hand and the melody with my right hand. And I didn't like it because the musicians that I would see in church were playing the opposite way. But she told me that it would be to my benefit to learn it the way she was teaching. Eventually she could tell that I was playing the opposite way in my free time and @ church. But now I'm thankful because a lot of musicians are surprised that I can play the chords with either hand. I think the piano is harder to learn because you have to touch the keys with different degrees of pressure to achieve a certain sound and work with the 3 pedals @ the same time. Whereas on the organ it doesn't matter how hard or soft you hit the keys. The sound won't change unless you make adjustments by turning or pressing a button or moving the volume pedal. The only time I play my piano is when I might happen to hear something on the radio or tv in passing through the house & I want to try to get it real quick. Otherwise I leave that thing alone pretty much! By the way the piano pedals look like they were made for Timberlands!!! LOL

To be honest though he's not looking too well these
days. But I'm going to pray for him.

No, he does'nt.  There are pictures of him with Joey DeFrancesco at Joey D's website(www.joeydefrancesco.com).  You know he lost his wife at the end of last year.  Smith had a website for awhile at jimmysmith.net, but it seems to no longer be active, I got the impression from that website he now lives in Arizona, possibly with Joey D????
Thanks for letting me hang with you guys!

The Chorus and Vibrato is caused by the Vibrato Scanner in the organ.  The Chorus setting on the organ is actually a shallow fast vibrato.  C-1, will give you the shallowest form of Vibrato.  C-2, will give you a bit more depth.  And C-3 will give a good amount of depth.  The V-1/V-2/V-3 settings are slow, and full of depth.  They don't particularly sound nice through the Leslie on fast.  But sounds pretty creepy through the Leslie on Slow!

The Main, Echo & Ensemble on the Leslie switch was originally designed for Organs with self contained speakers.  Like the A-100, and other brands of Organs as well.  The Main, would play sound through only the Leslie, Echo would make the organ play sound through only the Speaker Unit in the Organ, and Ensemble would play both the internal Speaker & Leslie at the same time.

Percussion temporarily plays the 5th or 6th drawbar I believe, to give a punch to the sound, like a piano.  You mimmick percussion by using a setting like 666080000, but the 5th harmonic doesn't decay like percussion does.  It does add bite to the sound if you got a C2/B2 or other Model without Percussion, though!
