My brother is a C.O at Trenton State Prison and he said you would not believe the amount of racism that goes on there...between the white C.Os and the inmates who predominantly black. He says it's very stressful because people just sweep it under the rug. He said there are feuds between the black C.Os and white ones over the treatment of the inmates...smh it's such ashame.

I remember getting pulled over by a white cop that used to come by my church every now and then. (He used to tear that tambourine up LOL!) Anyway I just so happened to cut through the hood to get to work a little faster. I'm driving, doing 27 because I know coppers are always in that neighborhood. Next thing, cop is pulling me over at my work! I am soooo angry because he followed me all the way to my job THEN decided to pull me over! I'm say "Good morning officer, can I help you?" He's like I pulled you over because you were doing 27 in a 25. WHAT?!? I kind of shook my head in disgust like are you serious. Then he said "Do you work here?" I Pointed to my parking tag with the Duh obviously look and shook my head yes. He said "Oh ok, slow down next time and take that thing down." (talking about my car freshener) *rolling my eyes*

I was working at the county building were the courts and the jail are so because I was driving through the hood, he probably thought I was on my way to court...smh. I looked at him like Dude, you can't come to my church anymore LOL! I'm telling my daddy! lol
Did you feed your spirit man today?

Either I need to get help, or I have to find a(nother) way to channel the anger I feel about stuff like this. I got teary eyed as I was reading this, my heart is pounding right now, and I'm angry. Even though it was years ago, I'm angry.

Specifically, the part in bold... I cannot stand to see people abuse their power. Somebody once told me that I clearly have a problem with authority. I don't have a problem with authority at all; I have a problem when people ABUSE their authority. They need to do a better job screening these people before they give them guns, badges and uniforms. A lot of them have low self-esteem issues that contribute to them mistreating people just because they can.
Yeah, I was in tears too!  I tried to explain to him that I am college-bound and not a trouble-maker or anything.  He didn't care.  I believe he knew all along that it was going nowhere, especially when the lady from the restaurant spoke up.  He was just too prideful and arrogant to let the whole thing go at that point.

In the Utah suburb where my parents live, my brother was stopped by the little "Terrace Police" and made to walk the line and a bunch of stuff.  He told my dad and my dad went down to the precinct (it's a little two-bit operation, we know all of the cops there) and told them all off.  He told them that if my son does something wrong, stop him, even arrest him, but if you have no reason, then leave him alone.  "Yessir, Mr. Miller"  LOL!  They knew who my brother was, tryna act brand new... SMH...

things like that are SO infuriating.

One of the things i tell my lighter hued pals, you cant know what that feels like. To be perceived as an threat all the time. to be questioned about where you live in your neighborhood, all the time. To feel the need to teach your children cop survival 101.

 :(

Do you think that the people of the world will ever get to a place where prejudice and racism and profiling and all that is seriously reduced or even eliminated?
Or will Jesus come back first?
Seriously.
Seems like we've made strides but they've been small and slow and whoever thinks that it's all a non-issue has got their head in the sand.

:D You sill girl.

I have been in Jersey and followed all the way to the Ben Franklin bridge from Voorhees going back to Philly. I have been tailed from Black Horse Pike all the way to the Tacony Palmyra bridge and then "gritted" on by the cops. Its sad... My dad used to work for OPD and he said that a cop (in Oakland) is supposed to pull you over within 6 blocks of him getting behind you.

Nessa, you mentioned Alameda up there somewhere. I hate that place. Never seen a city where the speed limit in the ENTIRE city is 25 MPH. Its rediculous... almost like a set up.

YEAH!!! We were driving on that road that curves around by the ocean.  I didn't even KNOW the speed limit... I was following my sister so we could return a rental car.  We were doing like 40... IT LOOKS LIKE A 35/40 MPH ROAD!!!   He pulled her over and then waved me over (should've kept going, lol)  I know better now... well, now she lives in Dublin, so I probably won't be hanging out over there...

Jesus will come back for $1000 Alex.

But, I will offer an out, because Jesus is just that awesome that He could end it now before He shows up....... I have noticed that in times of tragedy, people forget about the color lines. Now we have had some bonafide tragedy already and it has helped, even if only temporary, but if something was to happen more severe on a national/international/or global level we could do it.

Yeah, I used to live there, on Central Avenue across from the park and I worked at night a lot. I used to take the tube from Oakland, you could speed in the tube, but had to slam the brakes when you exited on the Alameda side. :D

I just got harassed by Paul Blart in my complex. This dummy shines the light on me and asks do I live here ?/? I didnt even answer. I just KIM... what a dummy. I been here 2 years, everyone knows me. Sheesh.

bruh, with some of the things I've seen, It's hard to see it in my lifetime. I tend to think like with the case of he isrealites, a whole generation had to die out before things would progress.

I think even if a whole generation or two died out we'd still have as many issues with racism as we do now, but it would be more covert.

Well, I was in the courthouse once in New Kent County... I was  there because my inspection sticker had been expired for 2 years :D ... I saw the judge sending people to jail left and right. This one guy (white) tried to explain his way out of tailgating and flashing his high beam lights at an unmarked patrol car. Then he wrecklessly went around, at about 80+ MPH and the cop pulled him over. His defense was that he didnt know that he was a cop... The judge told him that it was illegal still. The guy was arrogant and cocky to the cop and to the judge, so the judge suspended his L's and made him do weekend jail. I think that the dude thought that he would get away with it, cause it was a white judge and white cop, but that day, justice was served.

When I went up, I was nervous, and the judge asked me is I was scared. I told him yes, and he asked why. Aned I told him that he reminded me of Judge Judy :D He then chuckled and asked me if I had made necessary repairs to my car. I told him none were necessary, and then he asked why was the sticker expired ?/? I tild him because I am lazy... He chuckled again and told me he admired my honesty. All I had to pay was court costs. He dropped the ticket completely.

I though I would get the elsectric chair. Seeing as how he sent the other three people ahead of me to jail :D and when I paid the court costs, my debit card declined! I just knew that I was gonna get thrown under the jail.

Not really profiling, but it is still funny to me. :D

I just remembered something else that happened to me that I consider profiling.

In the Summer of 2002, I'd just gotten my learner's permit, so my parents agreed to let me drive during our trip from B'ham to ATL. We were in a brand new, rented Lincoln Town Car. While on I-20 going back on B'ham, I see an officer in the median coming back around toward me. I'm in the right lane, doing the speed limit. He pulls up on the left and starts to pace me. He looks over at me, and my parents looked over at him while I kept my eyes on the road. He then slowed down, got back into the median and went back on the other side of I-20.

I think at first, he saw a young black guy driving a big luxury car and thought that fit the "profile" of a drug runner or something since I-20 is a route used for drug running. But after seeing my parents in the car, that flew out the window.

In some states, police can tell by the number or letter series on the license plates that a car is a rental.  The combination of a young black male plus a rented luxury car fits a profile.
