Just don't try it here in NY ... they've banned fast foods from the schools.

Where in NY are you?

Watching youtube clips of people singing hymns

Thinking.......

Who in the world told some of these people they can sing?

NT: Now I see why I've stopped listening to people sing on youtube, they all sound the same.  ::)

Sometimes it's not about whether they can sing or not. Some people just want to share their praise with the world.

Ohhh who asked you?  ::)

Thinking about my bed and the really fluffy pillows and thinking about burying myself under the really soft sheets and the really comfy comforter.

Ok cool!

NT: Where can I find an objective book on the history of the mime ministry? Was having a little debate with someone on mime because some preacher (one that's been talked about on here a lot) was arguing that mime ministry is entertainment and shouldn't be in the church.

Is there a such thing as an objective book?

Good luck finding one. Why on earth anyone would sit down to write a book on mime history in the church is beyond me.

FTR, i abhor all forms of dance ministry: liturgical, mime, all of it!  >:(

I wouldn't go as far as to use the word abhor, but I'm not a huge fan.

Unlike music ministry, dance ministry usually doesn't inspire praise or worship.  It almost always results in the church sitting and watching, waiting till it's over, then clapping.  It's like:  "Oh that was a nice move.  I like that outfit.  Wow, she's flexible."  The end.   :(

I can name on one hand the amount of times a dance has actually drawn the congregation in and inspired praise/worship.

Abhor is kind of strong. I should have used "intensely dislike".

In any case what most people are clapping to is usually the music, not hte dancing. Then you get the random leap and the whole audience goes "OHHHHHHHHH!"

But thats it. :)

Totally agree.

And in my experience, when the dance inspired praise/worship, it was usually the song, not the dance. :-\

I'll use the word abhor for mime. I really hate that stuff.

But I don't dislike liturgical dance if it is skillfully choreographed and skillfully performed WITH oil. I can't stand to see a bunch of unskilled folks prancing about repeating the same 3 steps over and over and over until the song fades out... that gets under my skin. But good liturgical dance, I enjoy. However, I do usually consider it more entertainment than ministry. :-\

Our church is big on dance ministry. I even have a friend who can probably explain dance ministry and its purpose.

Anyways, I guess all I'll say is....
Interesting perspectives.
