because the  electoral college Is the group that elects the president of USA,and ,not the popular vote. This Is the provision of the constitution, if I'm not mistaken.

The truth of the matter is that the electorial college process is still used because it has been used so long.(well over a hundred years) Many(verbal?)efforts have been made to get it changed(which would call for a constitutional amendment)over the years but no one really wants to listen seriously. People just resist such changes.  The thing is just wired together, but it has worked over the years.  The electors almost always vote with the popular vote for their state(they don't have to) and, of course, the electoral votes can get a president elected over the popular vote and has on occasion.

However, people, and especially congress seem to take the attitude of, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

So that "your vote counts" won't be a total lie.
