Hold on, let me make sure your lady is tuned in before you speak...

:D
She doesn't fit the angry description else I might still be single. :)
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.

Crazy comes in all colors.

Nessa, I think he included "all" women in his comment"... ;)  However, I agree with T., I don't see black women as being angry, just trying to deal with many responsibilities that in all fairness, black men should be taking care of;  However, do they cross the line sometimes and won't let the man take the lead?  I think the answer would be yes, but only because they have been doing it all for far too long.

Ness is correct(as she is much of the time).

I've been listening to a number of pastors who are warning the men to man up and protect their wives!! What I get is the feeling that women are under heavy attack spiritually and perhaps turning "ON" their mates instead of "TO " them(for support.

Just my take.

What responsibilities are you talking about?

Black women for the most part have been taking care of the household even in slavery times, maybe not because black women then wanted us too, but because it was necessary.  That was a distinct plan at that point, the question is have black men as a whole have realized it?  If you degrade a man to a certain extent, what will he do TJ, oh I mean U13, you both strike me as very intelligent smart brothers!...

I'm not going into this again, but it's still a distinct plan.  :D

So now that it's no longer necessary and it's making them angry, why do black women still want to hold on to this structure? To me it seems like even when black men do right and are on point, women still wont trust him to lead her and their kids.

And I disagree that black women have been taking care of the household since slavery. Yes we have been matriarchal, but for 100 years after slavery ended, black women and men were getting  married and we didn't have this problem. The old folks tell me of a time where it used to be shameful for a girl to have a baby out of wedlock. Now it's celebrated and proudly considered as being strong.

So have we realized it? I say it mostly depends on the way we we're raised and what we were indoctrinated with by our parent(s). Too many of us are living the life portrayed in the movie "Baby Boy". You can't just tell a boy to be a man and take care of his responsibilities when his mother has babied him his entire life.

And thanks for the compliment.  :)

What I had been noticing,(and maybe pay attention to this)  :in many gatherings;church, social, work,in less than 5 minutes-women will find something to rag on/at their mate.Like life is a perpetual, running war zone-what a waste of time and effort.

This country still firmly believes in the angry black woman. It doesn't matter if her anger is rational or not, or even if she's actually angry. (seriously, in certain places, her reasonable opposition to a statment is perceived as anger even if she doesn't look or sound angry. She could be having a bad day. Generally, no smile = angry for black women)  If she is percieved to be angry at all, the stereotype is applied to her and she is immediately treated like a hungry lion that just got loose in the zoo and is about to attack.

My uncle's and his wife were by recently; when he left the room she was telling all of his business. Yeah, he might be a little slow, but what kinda wife talks about her husband behind his back like that? ?/?

I think black men have it worse. You guys may be seen as angry, but we're seen as a threat.

Which is probably why black dudes, probably, don't get people coming up to them telling them to smile.  Lol.  While I tend to agree with you, black women who are seen as angry are also seen as threats, ESPECIALLY if she gets loud.  It's to the point where people expect for her to take off her earrings and break out the vasline.  People expect the "super ghetto" to pop out of a black women when she's angry, or perceived as such.  People think black people in general are a threat and are dangerous.  I believe that while the stereotypes are different they create a similar result without breaking gender roles.  Ex:  Women are expected to be docile and friendly.  Black women tend to be seen as sassy and unfriendly.  Men are expected to be level headed and professional.  Black men tend to be seen as irrational and excitable.  Both of these things hinder both black men and women as they try to move forward in life.

Both genders have it bad concerning the perception of other minorities.  As it pertains to our perception of one another, well, we simply have to do better in terms of interacting with one another as we strive to be more united as a people.

If, in fact, that is our desire...to be united as a people.  :-\
Despite our communication technology, no invention is as effective as the sound of the human voice.

I mostly somewhat agree, but it goes deeper than that for black men. When we start getting into the way men think and our egos we will see that many white executives will see a black man as competition. Not just competition for climbing the corporate ladder, being successful and having material wealth, but also as sexual competition. I've seen it firsthand at my job and we even see it on TV.  There's an episode of "The Office" where Idris Elba visits the office and the ladies literally go crazy over him. The same thing happens in real life and it drives white men crazy as they want that sexual attention for themselves.

So in that regard women are not a threat. That's why they get hired with no problem while black men, even qualified ones, often have a hard time getting corporate jobs, especially as managers.

And men have to smile just as much as the women. There was even a study that claimed that black men have have a "baby face" in order to be accepted into management positions. And any woman, even the ghetto ones can get a corporate job. When have we ever seen a ghetto  brother working in some type of office or CS position? Most of us have to be nearly gay in order to not be seen as a threat.

As for black women getting loud in the workplace, 90% of them who are the loud type, act totally different when around white people at work. Watch "The Help" if you don't know what I mean. :D

I agree with you on the gender roles statements, I just think that with men, the problem is bigger than stereotypes
