Title: 2011 LGM FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Post by: favoritepsalm1 on July 12, 2011, 11:12:23 AM
Are we gonna have it this year?  The Holy Rollers have had to spend the whole offseason tormented by that embarassing loss championship to the Cowboys.  Nothing less than a ring will do this time...

I hope so, cause I need to get my Title back...

Has something changed and football is back? IF so, I'll get right on it so as to defend the title.  And, it's never embarrassing losing to The Cowboys. 8)

@SJon:  I think most people are going ahead and registering their leagues just in case there is a season and it starts on time.  That way they don't get stuck with a horrible draft time.

There are four spots remaining.  I have sent invites to previous managers.

My concern is there availability during the season.  I always want a league that is moving (especially as it pertains to FAIR trading {Brooklyn, I'm looking in your direction} for example, don't send a three for two person deal forcing your opponent to drop a player they may not desire to drop...just sayin).

So, if you'd like to jump in someone's spot, leave me an e-mail address (or PM me said address).

Actually, they do look alike.

As for the request, if no one has any objections, I can rock wit' it provided we get one more manager.

Ok just send the request to chevonnereynolds@yahoo.com. He'll get it and name his own team. That way he can make his own decisions about his own team. We usually argue about what moves to make..LOL!! They're not serious arguments by the way, but we do have our disagreements with what to do. ;D

And, PHB, if you'd cut your LGM time down to half, you'd find time for the league.  ::) #jussayin'

Oh you think I want two teams. Dude, come on...give your sister some credit. My husband really did want to create his own team with LGM. You can ask him on Skype if you don't believe me.  :-\ Anyway, looks like he won't be needed since RJ has now joined.

I'm still deciding.  Every year, I say to myself that I don't have time.  But then I say I'll make time, and I end up never making time consistently.  I fear I'll do the same this year.

Invite sent.

If Buck joins, that makes 10--a decent size league. It still gives LL and PHB time to decide what they want to do but at this late date both would have to decided together.

At this point, a sista could try to convince one of the gents (LL or PHB) to join with you (thereby making the decision easy for the other :D).

Other than that, I don't know what to tell you other than finding someone who hasn't responded to this thread or sent me a PM. *kanyeshrug*

Your:

Kevin Kolb & Matt Forte

For my:

Peyton Manning & Tim Hightower

Not exactly highway robbery but I would be the loser in that one...unless Kevin Kolb is somehow better than Peyton Manning this year.  Injury and all, Peyton Manning is a sure thing to put up great stats every year.

You don't give a guy, who has Brady as his starting QB, another starting QB for his bench the likes of P. Manning.

Not if you're trying to win a FF championship.

I'll say this, at least BS is offering same-for-same trades (so far). As in two players for two players.

The question, for me, is injuries.  Evans is dealing with a foot issue which sucks considering his speed is, finally, matched with a QB that can get him the ball.

Bradshaw hasn't looked good in preseason which could make Coughlin gun-shy about using him strictly as opposed to a committee situation.

On the flip side, folks thing Freeman may be headed toward another solid year and Williams projects to be a big part of that and The Daily Show is a handcuff with homerun possibilities when he's in a game.

I'd stand pat if I were you.

You've seen my retort concerning the trade.  Gonna need more--and by 'more' I mean yours for mine unless you can offer a sweet package.

I'm thin as it is @ that spot.

You have a top flight QB (Rivers), a top flight WR (Lloyd) and a RB who led his position in receptions (McCoy).  Ahmad Bradshaw ran for over 1200 yds last year.

I think you're pretty solid.

When I look at VJ and Miles Austin...I see alot of similarities.  They both have solid QBs, they both have solid TEs, and they both have solid #2s, so I don't see VJ as being more of a focal point in his respective offense.

I don't think you can really call Lloyd a top tier WR...he has put up decent numbers, but when think top tier, you normally aren't mentioning Lloyd

I agree that when people think top tier they normally aren't thinking about Lloyd.  That doesn't mean he isn't one though.

Did you know he led the NFL with over 1400 receiving yards last year?  How do you lead the league in receiving yards and not be a top tier WR?   :-\

In my mind, top tier WRs are consistent with their production (e.g. Calvin or Andre Johnson).  Lloyd is not in their league by a long shot.

Dez Bryant >>> Malcolm Floyd

That's the difference between Austin and VJax and why I can't pull the trigger without more of an incentive (like a replacement WR and a QB)

Malcolm recieved alot of double coverages last year because of who wasn't on the field...I think their numbers will be comparable this year.

You have Foster and I don't label him a 'top tier RB'.  Like Cordney, he had a great season last year and this preseason he appears to be ready to continue that--provided his hammy holds up.

That was easy...I might even throw in Ray Rice now that he has Vonte Leach blocking for him.  Leach was the guy that paved the way for Foster last year.

I can't be mad at any of those names.  I'm surprised you put Jamaal Charles so high though considering he has only had 2 good years.

Last year he averaged a ridiculous 6.4 yds per carry.  That's just crazy.  But they don't use him more because he's such a (relatively) small guy at 199 lbs.

I agree with you on Ray Rice cordney. Vonte Leach is going to make a HUGE difference! I think Chris Johnson may end up getting hurt this year since he hasn't been in camp. He's probably going to pull a hammy.  :-\

LOL, well Vonee just scored Ben, so I may be sent (with one more pending trade)... I'll check your roster again and see what you might like.

It seems that every year I find myself doing things differently.  Last year I worked the waiver wire to a 2nd place finish in my work league... didn't work out so well over here.  So this year I actually did my own draft and starting to work out trades... I should have sooner, lol!

Chevonee, B-Styles, check ya trade offers.
SJ - Ya can't have Stafford, I just got him and I don't plan on giving him up unless there's a ridiculous offer that most are smart enough NOT to make, lol!

SJ, I saw that first counter and was wondering if you goofed on that, lol!  Gonna make another?

Can't see how.  You don't have anyone viable (that you're willing to trade) worth a #1 back in an offense in the NFL not on, say,  Seattle or Indianapolis.

I can't trade depth for a sometimey (int) WR.  :-\

Yeah I know it's thin... I'm content with what I have for now, but thinking ahead to the bye weeks.  I'll grab some squad's #2 back for fluff points just for that week.

Tough call as both have WRs who may or aren't playing which may increase their targets.  I'd lean toward Keller even though Daniels is the better TE.

Real tough choice...Early in the season, Kellers always seems to be Sanchez fav target, but after seeing what the NE tight ends did...you can't help but want to start Daniels

Keller has had better stats the past two seasons .  What makes you think Daniels is the better TE?   ?/?

Uh, in the last two season, Daniels has played in 19 games because of injury. You're really going to try to sell your point using those stats?  ?/?

Dustin Keller came into the league in 2008.  Looking at the numbers for both players during his tenure in the NFL:

From left to right, you have games played, receptions, total yards, yards per catch, and TDs.

Keller    48   148   1,744   11.78   10
Daniels   35   148   1,852   12.51   9

Now, unless my math is off, Daniels possesses the same amount of receptions, more yards (for a more ypc average), and 1 (JUST ONE) fewer TDs in SEVEN FEWER games.

In my mind, producing those numbers after being injured makes Daniels the better TE if only slightly.

Yep.  If you want to look back at stats from 3yrs ago and say Daniels will be that good again (after tearing his ACL last year) I think that's a leap.   :-\

Especially considering he had 1 catch for 12 yds in Week 1.

There's nothing indicating his injury is preventing him from being that good again (after all, he does play on a team that has Andre Johnson).

For all of your raving about him, it's not like you took Keller on your fantasy team as your first TE selection.  :D

I will say that he's had a monster two games, thus far.  I will also say that I liked him when he came into the league. I still do.

Anything is better than the 0pts I'd put up if I started Arian Foster.   :D

The Chiefs have a terrible defense and a bad QB too which is actually good.  They'll be playing from behind so they'll be throwing a lot and Dexter is a great receiver.  I can see Matt "Checkdown" Cassel throwing to Dexter a lot.

IRT the red: Is that a carrot you're waving under my nose sjon?   :D

Cam is going to start from here on (good news against the Jags this week), Mike Wallace and Brandon Marshall have each been fantastic so they're untouchable.  Tim Hightower ran for 96yds (though he didn't get a TD) last week.  If Arian Foster was healthy I'd feel pretty good.

Of course I'm ALWAYS open to offers.

I don't know what it is, but I feel like taking some big risks this week.  Trading with my opponent the same week, putting in a bunch of sleeper acquisitions, playing two RBs from the same team... crazy, right?  But strangely I feel pretty good about it.  The results may dictate otherwise, but we'll see what happens!

They say that FF is about taking risks. I see your lineup. I ain't thinkin', for one minute, that this is gonna be a cake-walk--I don't care what the projections say.

And, usually, I don't trade with my opponent in the same week, either.

I haven't gone all in yet by putting in Alexander against Baltimore instead of Nate Washington, that's the last ounce of "everyone says" thinking I had, considering that secondary.  But I'm still strongly considering it.

I feel sorry for Kenny Britt....he was having a coming out party this season.  However, the individual who owns Kenny...I do not feel sorry for him.

P.S.  Show no love for my opponents!!!

I woke up this morning and I was doubly upset (if that's possible.)  I lost by 1pt and then to add salt to the wound...someone else picked up Frank Gore off the waiver wire, even though I grabbed him first.

No question.  Not only does he pass for a ton of yards, but he's the Panthers #1 option in the red zone.

Usually, if the majority of your opponent's players score in the twenties, you're in big trouble.  Just so happens that Aaron Rodgers had an unusually spectactular day yesterday.

To be fair, two of those pics weren't Brady's fault at. all.

I said it's close. If we're talking, solely, about this moment with the first quarter of the season complete, I can agree with you that Rodgers is the league MVP.

Over the season, I think Brady will continue his superior play and, along the way, Rodgers will throw his share of picks, as well.

I'd say that's likely.

Ravens defense... holy smokes!

It was the Jets O-line.  We lost Pro Bowl Center Nick Mangold and had NO OTHER COMPETENT CENTER ON THE ROSTER.

How's that for roster management?   :(

So we had fumbled snaps because the dudes playing Center weren't really Centers.  We also had a TON of blown assignments on the O-line and pressure right up the middle.  The Center is vital to the Offensive Line.  The shortest path to the QB is right up the middle.  Our line looked worse than I've ever seen it.

Yes the Ravens have a great defense, but the fact that the Jets were completely unprepared for an injury at Center is the true story.  How do you not carry at least one other true Center on your roster?

I just looked up his stats.

He's 14th in receiving yards.  So while he has 3 more TDs than anyone else I don't know about him being the second most valuable player in the league.

The question becomes which do you want a WR who covers a lot of field or a WR who gets into the most important portion of the field?

Even with that, Brady would have to be above Megatron on the list for MVP.

I know he's ranked 14th(now...lol), but for him to avg 6 catches, 80 yds, and 2 tds per game is very impressive.  With Tom Brady, I feel his offensive line is ridiculous, and they pave the way for his success...has Tom Brady even been toouched?

I'll never understand this logic. Brady should be penalized because his O-line does what it's paid to do? :-\ ?/?

Give Alex Smith the same O-line and he doesn't put up Brady-like numbers. *kanyeshrug*

To maintain a level of competiveness, I need an ACTIVE replacement manager for the Big Boys team.

It has been suggested to offer the team to Vonne's husband and I wanted to put it to a vote.

Managers!!

To maintain a level of competiveness, I need an ACTIVE replacement manager for the Big Boys team.

It has been suggested to offer the team to Vonne's husband and I wanted to put it to a vote.

PM me and let me know your thoughts.

wow ... you took that suggestions seriously ...

How does the waiver wire work?  I remember someone dropped Frank Gore and I picked him up...only to find out someone was higher on the waiver wire then me.  Can someone please explain this to me?  This is the only league I'm in that uses a waiver wire.

It appears you don't need an explanation.  You've summed it up nicely.

I've considered removing it, though.  But, it does make it a bit fairer for those who don't log in as often as others and keeps the league competitive. *kanyeshrug*

Yeah the waiver wire is a good balancing tool.  Basically, once you make a waiver move you go to the back of the line so others have a crack at a waiver move and one person doesn't dominate it because the can afford to be online all day and night.  So if someone ahead of you on the waiver rank wants the same guy, you're outta luck, but you may also beat out someone else in the same manner.

It also makes for a bit of strategy planning.  Some folks will make a few moves and then sit back, so once the injury flurry hits and everyone else makes a bunch of moves, they can make their way up the waiver wire rank.  So when a good pickup opportunity comes up, or it's time for final moves before the playoffs, you have a better shot at getting that bench shored up for that last push.

That was the flaw.  During the week you made the trade, you had one week where you had no available RBs.

Definitely a tough call.  I think the deciding factor is whether or not Gates plays.  But, you'll have the luxury of waiting to find out.

Think I'd play him because his WRs are better than Freeman's at this point.

Let's start with Turner averaging more points per game than Tomlinson.  Then, let's add that Turner has more TDs than both of them combined.  Add to that RB depth is, according to many, the best assest in fantasy football.  Lastly, there's the potential for points factor.  Currently, Turner has more opportunities for points than either Tomlinson or Branch.

Their combined point total is not enough for me, and apparently BT, to pull the trigger on that type of trade.

Now, I'll grant you that it's not quite a lopsided trade but it's not appealing, either. *kanyeshrug*

Exactly.  IMO, LT is pure fodder, his productivity has been pretty whack, so it was pretty much a straight up deal between Turner and Branch.  That, combined with the reasons that SJ pointed out, made this a NOSIGN.

I'll admit, it's not as lopsided as most of your offers, but not appealing indeed.  Look beyond the fantasy points, and read into the circumstances around the player and his team.

One part I didn't mention is projection--trying to know where a player is in the 'pecking order' on his respective team.

LT's behind Greene (even though he started yesterday, a knock to his former team, nothing more)

Branch is the third or fourth option on the Pats behind Welker, Gronk, Hernandez (in some order).

Turner has been getting the rock.  And, I'm not buying this 'old legs' theory, either. Cat's been puttin' in work.

Bingo again.  With a few exceptions (especially Welker), having WRs and RBs from either the Patriots or Saints have the same annoying problem... they're all up and down because the hot hand rotates from week to week.

I agree it's still Felix's job.  Right now.  Whether or not he'll still have it when he returns remains to be seen.   :D

Jason Garrett said: "It's just a sign of hopefully things to come.  That's not to suggest that he's going to have these kinds of days. But the first opportunity he got to get the ball like he got it in college, he took advantage of it. Now he's just got to keep taking the next step week to week."

In no way did he anoint him starter, but to me it sounds like there's an open door if he can take advantage.

Hey, if you have a possibly elite RB you've got to at LEAST give him a chance to win the job.  That's what DeMarco has.  A chance to win the job.

The issue is health.

Felix 'The Fragile Cat' has shown that he has the skills but lacks durability.  I believe the same knock follows DeMarco.

Also, I want to see what he does against a top-flight defense before anointing him anything.

But, we'll see. I have him in my other league so let him run (as long as you and I aren't playing one another).  :D

True.

When your rookie RB rushes for more yards than any player in the history of your franchise (and 8th most yards in the history of the league)...in his first real chance at a heavy workload...you'd be smart to take notice.

This IS Jerry Jones though, so....we'll see.   :D

Again, I'd have to see him against the Ravens or Steelers. Put up some decent numbers, stay healthy, and, THEN, I think there's something to notice.

Putting the smackdown on the Rams, as historic as it is, doesn't automatically get you the starting gig.

It may be a fluke.  He may flame out.  But rushing for 253yds...thus breaking the team record...in your very first start...is worth 'noticing' in and of itself bro.  He was a 3rd string RB.  He is now being strongly looked at for featured back.

Again, for me, the defense has to be considered. I start him this week against Philly but my expectations are tempered because:

a. Philly ain't St. Louis
b. Andy Reid game plans almost as well as Belichick after a bye.

Think Jerome Harrison back in '99.

Played well for the remainder of the season after his historic day (winning many people a fantasy title, yours truly included), named starter, lost the gig to Hillis, shipped to the Eagles.  :-\

It's one game.  If this were a research project, the sample size is too small. And, unlike Harrison, he does Jones with which to contend and possible durability issues. It was one game--a GREAT, GREAT game but just one.

No arguments here.  I think we agree but we're just saying it differently (which is the LGM way  :D ).

He has by no means won the job.  But he has gotten the coaches to look at him and think "this guy could be something special".  He will now get a lot more touches (Jason Garrett: "He certainly earned the opportunity to get the ball a lot.").  Sounds like his role in the offense has just been upgraded dramatically considering he was the 3rd string back.

He isn't a HOFer, a Pro Bowler, or even a STARTer, but he moved up the depth chart and all eyes are on him for the time being.

He's been good every start!  Even when he had only 74yds it was because the Cowboys fell behind early...and he still averaged over 9yds per carry.

I think the Cowboys will use a dual back scheme once Felix returns.  Murray is just too good to go back to the bench.

I swear I don't get how I can always crush folks in my work league but always stink in this league.  Just scrappin for a playoff spot at this point.

And I'm like Michael Corleone when it comes to Rivers in my other league... Every time I try to make him SADDOWN, he keeps getting points that make me put him back in.

Sitting in his office, Michael leans back with fingers tappin g the desk lightly.  He looks at the screen before him... then looks to his desk and stares at the cold, steel button labeled "SADDOWN".  Looking again at the screen, he utters "Don't test me, Rivers.  Don't test me."

Josh Freeman.  Yeah... the QB position hasn't been my strong suit in that league, but I'm still #1 in the rankings thanks to my run game (Foster, Gore, Forte).  I may package Rivers with Gore to see if I can upgrade the QB spot for the playoff run.

I fent like gambling and put in Jacoby Ford in both leagues, and it looks like it would pay off until he went gimp, smh...

Nope. (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/948483-fantasy-football-rankings-week-11-chad-ochocinco-and-more-sleeper-wrs-to-start)

First and foremost because my other WRs are on their bye week.   :D

Welker is probable, meaning he'll likely play but he isn't 100%.  Chad has been seeing more looks from Brady so he may have two decent games in a row.

Ochocinco laid.  An.  Egg.  I shouldn't be surprised.  Tom Brady has pretty much ignored him all season.

McCluster?  Five stinking points?  Ugh.

It could be worse, you could pick up guys who blow up only to acquire an injury the following week *looks in BS's direction*
And, allow me to add, you're the Tony Romo of fantasy football owners.  You stay taking a chance on some level or another.  :D

The Fantasy Football Playoffs are upon us!!

After a gruelling regular season where those who started fast wound up almost missing out, our playoff schedule is set.

Can the defending champs, after a tough  regular season schedule, make another run for the title?

Is this the year the 'Holy Rollers' finally get over the hump?

Or, can the newcomers 'Bass Ballers' wrest the title away?

One thing's for certain, the playoffs are here and it's GAME. ON!

Set your lineups, gents.  And, God's speed to all the playoff contenders!!

There are times when fantasy looks like reality. Such was the case this past weekend as the wildcard round concluded with two crushing defeats.

Doubles Outlaws and Holy Rollers moved one step closer toward their shot at a Fantasy Football title. Now, the Outlaws face the upstart Bass Ballers as the Holy Rollers face the defending champion Dallas Cowboys.

Both conference matchup shape up to be nail-biters with the outcomes of each not decided until Monday night's tilt between the Steelers and Niners.

Who will win and move to the Fantasy Football SUPER BOWL?!

After 15 hard-fought weeks, the title game is set!!

After making the playoffs for the first time, Doubles Outlaws rides a 6-game win streak into their first championship game destroying many opponents on their path to the title.

The Dallas Cowboys make it through the league’s toughest schedule battered and bruised but battle-tested and ready for one more war to defend their title.

Doubles Outlaws

vs.

The Dallas Cowboys

Who will it be?

Who will go home with LGM’s most coveted title and be crowned

FANTASY FOOTBALL CHAMPION?!
