Quote from: Bobbo
this is Bobbo. My favorites are, Rocco, Jaco, Marcus, and of course my musical mentor on bass, James Jamerson.

Couldn't agree more with James Jamerson. Awesome bassist.

Er, I think my favorite bassist would be Prince and (yes) Bootsy Collins.

Hi All,

Some great bassists mentioned: Abe, Stan, Louis & Jaco - I'd like to add my bit from the European end!

Mark King - Brit bass supremo! Don't be distracted by the 80s pop he did with Level 42 - check out his amazing solo album "Influences" (avail on Amazon!).

Pino Palladino - Fretless Fanatic

And not to leave the yanks out...
Tommy Simms - not just  great songwriter/producer (Change Your World, Eric Clapton) the most beautiful melodic bass lines...

And finally...
Randy Hope-Taylor (Incognito) - Great all round funkster...

Personal #1 must be Abe for sheer innovation & explosive joy!

My Favorite Bass players: Tony Levin, Anthony Jackson, Gary Willis and Bunny Brunell. If you guys have not heard Willis and Brunell, you have are missing out on 2 of the rawest cats in the world right now. Also, there is a cat in japan named Tetsuo Sakuri (Straight Sick Wit IT!!!)

This guy had to be mentioned alone. Jimmy Haslip of the Yellowjackets is an incredible player. He has great touch, feel, and taste. The yellowjackets are my favorite band in the world. I would not be into music had they not inspired me. Each player in the band are my personal favs on their respective instruments.

Can't believe that nobody mentioned Bernard Edwards yet, from Chic & Sister Sledge days. Not as great a technician as some of the others mentioned, but MAN that guy had the best feel around!

Also, don't think anybody mentioned Bootsy Collins - another great innovator from James Brown/Parliament/Funkadelic era.

All of the aforementioned bass players are awesome.

However I am shocked that I have not seen my favorite bass player mentioned. That is none other than  REGGIE YOUNG, the NYC area bass player who is featured on albums by James Hall, Bishop Eric McDaniel, and Hezekiah Walker. He has also been featured at the National Baptist Convention as well.

This man is BADDDD!! His fingers seem to move 100 mph! Reggie Young is one of the baddest bass players ever!

Andrew Gouche'
Reggie Young
This guy is incredible!  Check out his skill on James Hall and worship and praise.  Bishop Eric McDaniel,  Craig Hayes and the united voices, and some of the older Hezekiah Walker.
