You know that he's got a Guitar World column now, don't you? You might be able to pick some of that stuff up. He just went over the riff and solo excerpts from "Prog" last month.

I don't even try to touch that stuff... Same with Satch and Vai, etc... I just get all depressed and want to quit (I'm kidding).

If that's your thing, then that's your thing...

Personally, Michael Angelo Batio scares the living daylights out of me  ;)

My guitar teacher got to meet him. Told me he was actually a cool guy

hey, to each his own, man. i'm sure we all have people we enjoy that others wouldn't, but if it inspires you then by all means enjoy it.

No, I'm sure he's a great guy... lol... I meant that type of playing scares me, since I'll never reach that level of accuracy and speed (not being negative, I just don't have the desire). ;D

It kinda freaks me out the way Cray "talks" when he solos. I got the heeby-jeebies watching that Crossroads set.

Maybe it's just me.

Remarkable player, though.

Unapologetically I agree with lilBB.  That solo by Prince on 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' is definitely on my Top 5 guitar solo list.  As far as raw emotion conveyed thru 6 strings, he covered that twice over.
 >:( I don't know why people tip-toe around Prince in the forum.  Prince is a fabulous guitarist and musician in general, which in turn makes him a better guitarist because his ego is not fed by shredding out the most notes in a measure, or how many ways he can alter or substitute a chord, or if he can squeeze in this Super Locrian Diminished Whole Tone Suspended #11th scale or not.  His solos compliment the music, and are tastefully done so.
...and of course anything that Jubu blesses is gold.

As far as gospel guitar... most anything J. Dubose and CeCe Winan's guitarist Ricky....something.

By far though... Andy Timmons is my favorite guitar player.  It's hard to pick one solo of his, but "Cry for You" is my favorite AT song.  He's got a good ear for harmony... makes that guitar sing.

Robert Cray does a great solo in his song "Time makes Two". So soulful and you never have to hear the words of the song to know what the sopng is about. :'(

SRV does a great SONG on the Eric Clapton Crossroads DVD. I say song, but it is really just a ten minute long guitar performance by him and his troop.

The Robert Cray solo is on the Crossroads DVD also.
Stevie didn't play on Clapton's Crossroads DVD.  He died a long time ago.  I wish he had though.  He's one of my all time favorite guitarists.  No disrespect intended.  I just thought it was funny when I read it.  ;D
God Bless!!

You know, when I read that, I was like "how long has Clapton been doing these Crossroads concerts?" lol

Who were you thinking of trackman?

Joe Walsh had a fun set on there, too. My boy John Mayer played, but it wasn't the trio, just his album stuff (which is also very good, but less guitar oriented--nice solo on City Love, though--that song makes me laugh since I moved to Columbus from a little town south of Dayton for my wife lol)).
