LOL! CS thread is general baptist and this thread is full gospel...LOl!
Thinking bout how cool it would be to not have choir rehearsal tonite.
LOL @ the LGM Shark Tank.
I read about a business in the ATL airport that made me think of you, PHB. I hate you didn't think of it first. LOL.
Yeah, we have a "minute hotel" at the airport. You pay $30/hr for a private "room" with a bed, blankets, a tv, desk, internet connection, etc.... for long layovers or delayed or cancelled flights.
Really?!?!
well both of the ideas I was going to posts has already been done. I was going to make glazed potato chips.
and the other idea was to allow fast food places to sell their food in schools. Money made off the fast food's rent would help pay for the education the children are receiving...
Just don't try it here in NY ... they've banned fast foods from the schools.
Sometimes it's not about whether they can sing or not. Some people just want to share their praise with the world.
NT: Let me do a search to see if a thread has been done on abortion.
Yes, one was my first post.
And there has been many others.
Ok cool!
NT: Where can I find an objective book on the history of the mime ministry? Was having a little debate with someone on mime because some preacher (one that's been talked about on here a lot) was arguing that mime ministry is entertainment and shouldn't be in the church.
Ok cool!

Good luck finding one. Why on earth anyone would sit down to write a book on mime history in the church is beyond me.
FTR, i abhor all forms of dance ministry: liturgical, mime, all of it! >:(
I wouldn't go as far as to use the word abhor, but I'm not a huge fan.
Unlike music ministry, dance ministry usually doesn't inspire praise or worship. It almost always results in the church sitting and watching, waiting till it's over, then clapping. It's like: "Oh that was a nice move. I like that outfit. Wow, she's flexible." The end. :(
I can name on one hand the amount of times a dance has actually drawn the congregation in and inspired praise/worship.

Is there a such thing as an objective book?
Also thinking about how thin the line is between this thread and CS.
I am thinking about what to read, what to practice, and how can i locate someone locally in the Dallas area who would be mentor to help me improve as a bassist.
Sup Gemini47, saw your name over in the welcome thread! Glad to see your venturing out of the Bass forum :)What's up phbrown. I am hanging in here. Yeah man i venture out of the bass room quite often to post here a time or two. How's it going with you?

Now thinking: How on earth I'm going to make it through work today since I'm still up at 2:00 a.m.
Where in NY are you?
Im thinking Will They Hire Me? Am I Pregnant?
thinking about this asvab i take next week and getting better on the organ and keyboardGood Luck my friend!
thinking about how i'm going to act when my son is born :'( :)
:D you lucky dawg! so is he going to be called
mini me?
or Gibby Jr.?
Thinking: Am I the only one who fuses old worn-down-to-a-sliver bars of soap to new ones in order to make them easier to finish off?
Mine doesn't look like this, it's shorter and wider. But this will give you a better picture than my description will. LOL.

CountryMike: Sometimes, we all get together on Skype and just have fellowship. We share with each other, minister to each other, share music, laugh, etc. It's usually quite edifying. We would love for you to join us on Skype tonight. Do you have Skype, Mike?
Ok. Honest mistake.
If he joins, could you record it please?
A degree is nothing & the system is screwed. When you think out of religion. The Lord hears the cry of the poor & humble.
So you can be rich all you want to. Thou shalt not have any other gods(idols) before me. You can say what you want. You can't serve 2 masters. You can't serve God + worldly treasures($$ or anything other than God/etc.) You can't serve God & mamouth. Store your heart where your treasure is. Gambling isn't right. Jesus doesn't like gambling. Porn isn't right. Thou shalt not commit adultery. You can't put anything before him(God). Whether it's $ nothing should come into thought & no lusting is before him(God).
Cause nothing is more worse then anyone dying & going to hell. After every gospel scripture. Everyone should have a place to stay. You hear me. Also. Smarty pants who says hears the cry of the rich. Cause I m not the judge. Only he has all power & dominion over everything. But Thou shalt not have any other gods(idols) before me. Anyway. Smarty pants.

No, no, no. You're not allowed to point out the obvious errors in CM's posts. That's part of the fun!
No really u guys!! Blue Waffle is really a new STD out here. & it occurs in both men & women & it's a very painful disease as it describe. & you can search it online. Prevention + abstinence is the only way to win. No. I don't have skype.
No it is not. Get out of here with that.
No. I don't plan to get on skype. Cause I need to cut down & go down away from this online mess. But you can go to school online. Though.

Tizzy Teej is thinking about this upcoming semester. I'm doing 18 hours, and I have a couple of professors that don't have a good rep. :-\
We need to have a conference call prayer every week for TJ with a load like that.
Jesus & the Mount of Olive's. Also. Jesus & the 12 disciples(fellowship + partnership) & Jesus & the Romans(conflict). I am not anti-sociable. A plenty people are my friend's on here. As I can see. Yes. I can have friend's too. A woman can be your friend & the friendship can develop into a relationship & sex. Cause I was friend's w/ 4 black women. 1 black woman I had sex w/ in Detroit, Mi. & 3 other black women I had sex w/ in Pgh., Pa. I never had a white woman before. & no one can tell me what to do just like I am a child. Hezzy - "It's free to praise him. Free to give God all glory." It's free to sin. Too. That's what Jesus died on the cross for us to might sin. I am in my mid 30's. I am not a child. Jesus said in Matt. 19 - when a man get grown he leaves his M-O-T-H-E-R & F-A-T-H-E-R & get himself a wife. Also. Honor your mother & father. No one is my mother, father or wife. But friend's & mother, father & wife are nothing. Nothing comes before Christ. & you can't do anything against the Holy Ghost.
You can not do anything against the Holy Ghost. Thou shalt not bare false witness. Really. I am not a virgin from these 4 black women.
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? ?/? ?/? :-\
Do you dare attempt to enter the mind of CM? He would have to pull you to the side to bestow the interpretation thereof. Too deep.

Ummmmm.... So yeah, FP... Are you referring to the beating at the Wisconsin State Fair? (I think it was Wisconsin? Where the black kids were randomly attacking white people for no reason?)
LMBO!!!There have been a TON of those beatings here in Philly, FP. They set up a curfew downtown. 13 and under home by 10, 17 and under by 12. That started this week, and well it's still happening. Not safe to even walk downtown or get on the Septa bus with these crazy teens And adults
The video I saw was from a recent beating in Philadelphia, but they showed video of at least one more, and pictures of other people who were attacked. That's what sparked my posting of a new topic this morning as well.

Philly is not alone in the frying pan. During the Summer of the Marauder, similar attacks have scarred - and scared - Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Washington and New York.
Thinking, can this thread reach the elite level that the cousin, the Current Status thread, has reached?......LOL!!!

Thinking about how close it is to Christmas AGAIN and my 5 year old has already been putting in requests!! smh
I remember My mom or my grandmother would give us a HUGE JcPenny catalouge and let us pick out what we wanted. I would go through and circle. She even gave me a budget. I would go through that thing so many times trying to maximize my return on investment LOL (wow I didn't realize my mother was training me at such a young age... I'm going to call her and tell her thank you and that I love her)
thinking the divorce rate is high because people are allowed to get divorces ...
Also, I remember reading a while back about a proposal to have marriage "blocks" (for lack of a better word). Marriage licenses would be given in like 5, 7 or 10 year blocks. So you got married for xx years at a time. :D (not a good idea, IMO, but it would cut down on the divorce rate... lol).
Thinking that Females need to chill with the fake eyelashes. It looks more creepy than sexy.
Make them go to the DMV and stand in line to get renewed, LOL. Then the guys will have to do repairs, service the vehicles, landscape and take the written "women's mag" romance test while their spouses cook and clean, PLUS watch and keep the big-headed kids in line. (I know, old-fashioned, huh???)
Then it's off to the 'road test' - the lucky couple go on a date w/an inspector who's watching with a clipboard, taking points off for snide remarks, rudeness and other signs of discord...
;)
Y'all trippin about these eyelashes...
I love 'em. Just ordered a pair of these:

And yeah, Uey, I read articles on Yahoo all the time about things men hate that women think men love. :D

Mine wouldn't. I assure you, you wouldn't even know it was a wig if I didn't tell you. I would bet my last dollar on that.
The problem is lace-front wigs. That's what's so disturbing.
Pumped up about Bible Study..........
So Aaliyah's death could have been avoided if whoever responsible would have listened that there was too much weight on the plane?.......SMH!!!
Ummm where have you been for the past 10 years? LOL. Yeah, the reason for the crash was that it was too heavy (and the pilot was high). I remember that being in the news from day 1, pretty much.
Right! So late Bly!
I remember that Sunday after it happened, the youth choir was singing that Sunday. Anyways, after Sunday School, I brought it up so all the kids were talking about it.
Before we sang, my godmother always had us outside to pray and the kids were STILL talking about it and I'm the one who got in trouble for it. Smh.
Crazy thing about it is, Lisa "left-eye" Lopez died not long after that in a car accident.
Yeah. When I did listen to R&B/Pop, TLC and Aaliyah were my favs.
Watching her last days in the documentary was sooo sad.
Yeah, I loved TLC. And when I met Chilli, you couldn't tell me I didn't know her lol.
Who remembers "The Box"? That's where I watched all my music videos until I discover VH1 Soul Videos. It was on and poppin' then. They showed old school and new school stuff.
They still have it that one, but it sucks now.
Yeah, I always group Left Eye and Aaliyah together. In fact, in the beginning, I used to always mix up who died in which way. I always thought it was Left Eye in the plane and Aaliyah in the Honduras car crash. LOL.
#duh
But yeah, that was sad. I remember Left Eye's funeral. That joint had Atlanta SHUT. DOWN!!!!! It wasn't even that bad when the president came. But honeyyyyyyy that funeral shut the whole city down. For real.
That's true. I couldn't tell you the last time I sat and watched videos, unless it was on youtube, which is rare.
But The Box was the thing back in the day. That's what we all watched. No commercials, and no shows like MTV, BET, and VH1 has, just straight videos. AND you can call in and request videos.
#nowthinking what is the role of an armor bearer according to scripture? Does it fall in the same category as something that has became a practice based on misinterpreted scripture?
My friend Nancy does a GREAT teaching on the Biblical role of an armorbearer. She really needs to record it. It IS Biblical - very Biblical. Her teaching is nothing but scripture - not stretched, no reaching or anything. Just pure teaching. But as with nearly everything else, some churches have distorted the role.
What I think is cool though, is that a lot of churches DON'T mess it up as badly as what I've seen. I have been in the south for so long that I really thought it was the norm until I realized that not everyone takes it as far as some of these southern churches do. My church back home still doesn't have armorbearers/adjutants.
I know of one church (Britt knows which one I'm talking about) where the pastor has a team of armorbearers and one is a live-in (or "in-home caretaker"). His wife also has a team of armorbearers and a live-in.
I can tell you this much: the role of an armorbearer is not to fix tea, pour tea, pass water, change towels, carry Bibles, etc. We did that. Obviously.
#nowthinking what time should I go see "The Help" today? 1pm, 4pm, 7pm or 10pm? Just found out the movie is 2 1/2 hours....whew!
I'm thinking: Why do people {in passing} say "Hi, How are you doing today?" But they never stop to hear how are you doin? #guiltyI listen for a response, but sometimes I'm not ready for it to be anything other than "Fine." "Blessed." "Doing Well" LOL!

Hey.... can you see me in the PM room please...... ;DJust did, lol. Forgot I had gotten a message alert a little bit ago.
Thinking that it's up to the people, and not the government to create jobs. Fact: Black business owners are 3 times more likely to hire black people.
Thinking that it's time for those of us who are ambitious to start doing for ourselves, and stop waiting for other people to "put us on" to opportunities. Put yourself on!
LOL! You really wanna go there with me don't you??....LOL! j/k
;D :D
thinking about how my sister still manages to feel like she's fighting alone.....smh..trying to be there every step of the way...she stopped her treatments..she's stage 4.. I'm confused...I know its tough..I'm a survivor myself.. This can't be wisdom...this is moving and happening so fast.. I just bow my head and pray now..
LOL! All ill say is that while all the responsibility of job creation should not rest on the government, it should still play some role in job creation.
What role should they play?
Funding to businesses, maybe some type of tax break for businesses, etc.
Idk I keep thinking tax breaks for businesses that hire. Also specific funding in urban areas for jobs. But we also know that we would have to cut something in the national budget....
LOL! This is the thinking thread....right?....
Give me some time to think about the funding...haha!
LOL! All ill say is that while all the responsibility of job creation should not rest on the government, it should still play some role in job creation.
Uh huh.
Again, what kind of "specific" funding? And why on earth would there be funding in "urban areas"? Do you think the unemployment rate is lower in rural or suburban areas?
And again, where is this money coming from?
Thank you Counselor. :D
Tizzy Teej is thinking about what it would take to build a type-of entertainment club here in Auburn. For some reason, that's all I was thinking about in Marketing class today. Like a big arcade for grown-ups (ala Dave n Busters). Auburn would thrive on something like that.
That's a tall order, though, that I'm sure would take a WHOLE lot of money.
It probably would. Maybe you could brainstorm some ways to start small? Or try to find some investors?
It sounds like a great idea.
Yeah, investors would be good.
So....how much should I put you down for? ;D

#nowthinking how much longer am I going to be a part of the black church? I think I'm getting a bit irritated with some things.
Just out of curiosity, what are some of the things you think plague the black church that are non-existent in the non-Black church?
1. Overemphasis on titles.
2. Competitive attitude (preaching, singing, etc).
3. Lack of focus on spiritual growth/change.
4. Affects of slavery on current church practices.
5. Anti-intellectualism
Wow. Surprisingly specific list. (#4 is a little broad, though. To what effects are you referring?)Yeah, from my dialogue with either black friends who have crossed over to the non-black church or just non-black friends. All of those points either have a counterpart or a separate just as irritating issue to replace them. But... you'll find out should you make that move.
I can't disagree on #s 1, 2, and 5.
I somewhat agree on #3, but I don't think it's specific to the black church. I think some black churches do emphasize spiritual growth and many don't. But I think that problem is prevalent in the entire BOC today, not just the black church.
With all that said, how many NON-Black churches have you experienced in order to ascribe all this stuff to the black church with such certainty?

Yeah, when I first came to ATL, I lived in Lithia Springs (which at that time was predominately white), and the closest pentecostal church was a white Apostolic church. At that time, the church was like 90% white and maybe 10% other. The MOM and I became well acquainted, and even after I found a church home, we remained in contact.
Today, they are probably closer to 50/50 or maybe 60/40, but the leadership and the organization is still white. They unquestionably had/have the same issues that we have in the black church.
I DO believe there are some issues that are more likely to exist in the black church than in the non-Black church, but without spending time in a non-Black church, it's kinda unfair to make those kinds of assessments.
I'll admit: I haven't had a lot of experiences in non-black churches, and therefore my opinion may be a bit bias. What I have seen in non-white churches is that (looking at the title issue) it's ok to refer to the pastor as Bro. so and so but if you do that in the black tradition it's seen as a sin. Before becoming a major part of my home church in the 90s I use to go to non-black churches riding the bus. Yall know what I'm talking about....LOL!
In regards to the spiritual growth thing, I agree with you. However, to add to that (which kind of gets to #4), a major part of black preaching focuses on encouragement, deliverance, empowerment, etc., and I believe that is the case because of the history of slavery and how it affected black people. The people affected by slavery had to be encouraged that God was on the side of the oppressed and that God would bring them out. Therefore, many come to church to receive a word of encouragement. It kind of goes back to this "unwritten" rule that Sunday is for preaching/encouragement while Wednesday is for bible study (I disagree with that....).
Honestly I have a "want my cake and eat it too" attitude because personally I love the empowerment/encouragement focus yet I'm very concerned that coming to church is becoming more of a "what's in for me and my life" thing vs "what can I get to apply to my life to be more spiritually focused" thing.
Overall I'm just fed up with our focus. On a personal note: our church has been without a pastor for about 1 1/2 years and it looks like the candidate that the church wanted (who can preach the heck out of the church) may not come (long story). But I was just thinking: maybe our focus as a church was wrong. Instead of looking for the best person to Shepherd our church, we wanted someone to grow the church (numerically speaking) and preach our socks off, which to me is the wrong focus. It's like we're almost conditioned to expect preaching a certain way instead of focusing on what matters.
Last thing: for some reason I'm beginning to embrace more of the teachers like Rick Warren, Church Swindoll, Charles Stanley, etc. I love whooping (part of my tradition) but it just doesn't impress me anymore....*shrug*
Sorry for going on a tangent.
Good stuff.
I totally agree with you on the titles thing. You don't see a lot of that in the non-Black churches. You can tell just by driving past them. :D LOL! Also, SN: after reading Pagan Christianity, I have even more of an issue with pastors prominently displaying their pictures and names all over church literature, marketing materials, billboards, signage, programs/bulletins, etc. I already didn't like that, but now I abhor it.
You raised a good point about the slavery/encouragement thing.
I'm in a bit of a Catch 22 myself, but I think I've figured out a solution that works for me and my life. The pentecostal church experience is really all I know. I am totally and completely weary/worn out/exhausted/bored with all the hype-preaching, hooping, hollering, screaming, running, falling out... and nobody going home truly changed on the inside. I'm tired of the cliche preaching and the rhyming and tuning up and riffs and runs and style without substance, etc. I'm at a point today where all I want is the word. You can type it up and give it to me to read on my own. You can read it to me without ever getting excited or tuning up. You can recite it in a low tone of voice. I don't even care. I just want life-changing word. Every time. I'm desperate for it.
But...
I'm still Apostolic. :D
Once in a while, I crave that HG experience. I miss it. So when I do, I'll just go visit an Apostolic church and have a good ole run around the church and go home. No strings. :)
Now thinking about the seven string (low b) metal guitar that I played yesterday at the pawn shop... oh... so... awesome. I loved that low b crunchiness.. I just didn't know... I really didn't know it could be that amazing... even with a not-even-trying-to-sound-tubular Marshall solid-state overdrive sound, it sounded like something other than trash (unlike all the other guitars). And my tapping actually sounded good... I thought my tapping technique was bad, but it was actually my guitar.
Also, a great clean jazz sound, surprisingly, even with the hot pickups. The best jazz sound I've heard so far in the guitars that I've tried. Definitely going to go back so I can find out what type of guitar it was, and figure out what pickups it was using.
Thinking... thinking... I don't know how comfortable I'd be playing it for church, or even having it in my house (I know, it's silly to be concerned just because it's got pointy horns and stuff... but "image is important" goes both ways) but that low b... that tone... (°٢°)
#nowthinking what is Obama going to propose in his speech on jobs September 7?

Because he saw my post.....
If Obama reads these posts, it's time for me to end my hiatus from LGM political discussions. lol
Well, in case he does...
Mr. President,
Stop layin' down for these clowns. Act like you got a pair.
#nowthinking Not trying to be hard on those of us young but I don't get how you're an Apostle and look like you're in your 20s. Idk...

#nowthinking will U.S. Postal service become obsolete by 2015?
I'm noticing that a lot of gospel artists and preachers (at least ALL - 100% - of the ones I follow) on Twitter will retweet a compliment someone gives them. If someone says they preached well, sang well, or they are blessed by the word or a concert or whatever, that artist/preacher will RT it.
Why is that? #mostlyrhetorical

If someone says they preached well, sang well, or they are blessed by the word or a concert or whatever, that artist/preacher will RT it.It strikes me as arrogant and self-serving even though they probably see it as an acknowledgement that the person has tagged them. The better response, to me, would be to reply to the person with your own words of thanks or response to what they said.
Why is that? #mostlyrhetorical
Yeah I think I'd rather have a reply than the RT. But I totally agree with you, Ness.True.
And as for Mary Mary, I think that may have been a little self-serving too. A lot of times I see ppl play the pitiful, woe is me, 'can you believe s/he said that' line just to rally up supporters and encouraging words.
My friend said she was ready to end it all.............I couldn't even find the right response so I just said "I love you and I need you".... next? IDK...............................prayi ng for Christi

NT: I'm starting to hear a lot of folks calling themselves Apostles now. I don't remember hearing the title much back in the day. *shrug*. Thinking about how the preacher last night used a LOT of numbers. 5 is the number of...., there are 483 symptons of...., 10 is the number of..., there are 7 letters in..... I mean his message was really good, but I just think sometimes people get too deep with the number thing. I want the message, I don't want to be adding and subtracting lol.

Thinking about how we don't really perceive something as hard until someone plants that in our mind. We could be learning and achieving really difficult stuff, until someone points out how hard or complicated it is, then suddenly it becomes more difficult. I gotta throw out that mentality, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

#nowthinking what determines if one is singing with the anointing? That would probably be determined by how one would define "the anointing". I'm sure there are various definitions just as it is for the word "saved".

Now Thinking: If you are losing profits, then raise the prices. Don't skimp on my meals and give me a sub-par product.
More people will notice if the price goes up, than if they just give you less food.
Well I think more people will appreciate and understand the raising of prices when they are receiving an excellent product. A $.50 - $1.00 upcharge will bring a nice profit when you continue to keep your customers happy.
Thinking about finishing school, just so people can stop asking me when I'm gonna finish.*sigh* likewise. I'm thinking about going back in January. I really am trying to get my encouragement level up so I can just really buckle down and get it done.
NT: Crisis brings out the survival instinct in people; unfortunately, too often "survival instinct" is interchangeable with "the worst", and it's usually detrimental to the survival of the rest of the group; thus, ultimately self-destructive. *sigh*You is one deep brotha...

I'm wondering which reputation is worse: Saying you want to do something and failing miserably in front of your colleagues and being a see any someone who's not good at what you do, or saying you want to do something but not do it because you know you're not that great and looking like you'll all talk in front of your colleagues. Either way they're not going to want to work with you, but I wonder which is easier to come back from.
As for the first one, If you are gonna be making some serious moves in life, failing is pretty much mandatory. The school and employment systems has us so messed up and afraid to fail and make mistakes, that when we do fail, we think it's the worst thing that could ever happen. As long as you learn from your failures, you'll be alright, dont worry about what other people think, just keep working at it.
As for the second one, that's why I really dont really tell people what I plan on doing, I just do it. But as long as you're doing something, it doesnt matter if you didnt do exactly what you said you were gonna do.
Yes your reputation is important, but you can't get too caught up in what other people think.

NT: what would my life be like if I hadn't connected with so many wonderful people via the internet? The internet has its pros and cons but there are so many people I would have never heard of if it wasn't for the internet. Wow!
now thinking what software do they use for the Geico Commericals?
Thinking about how hugely awesome LGM really is.
Changed my life.
You guys are like my real family. Get on my nerves every chance you get, and so vastly different that it's hard to imagine that we're all related... but I can't get enough of you and couldn't begin to imagine my life without you. Can't think of anything I wouldn't do for you (except cosign a loan. HECK NAW. learned that lesson). I love you just that much. :)

Why are certain types of self evaluation considered bad?I don't think that's bad.
It's okay to evaluate your growth and see how far you need to go to be where you wan to be. However, when it comes to evaluating where your are vs where yu need to be to be a contender that's considered bad. Why?

Tread lightly, my friend. I eat n00bies like you for lunch.
Now thinking: Maaaannnn.... you know black people have to be strong, considering that the black slaves of yore had to eat all that "non-processed pink slime" and suffered from malnutrition, yet were still able to survive a full-day's worth of back-breaking labor done, day after day.
Man... humanity has such a high potential for strength of mind and body and will.
I wonder what would happen if we were to drop the "pink slime" now that we don't have to rely on other people to give their cast-offs for us to eat... Or maybe many of us still do?
I wasn't really suprised with this issue with McDonald's...but if this happened to Chik-fil-a i'd be devastated!!!
+1Who is that in your pic? I wonder how he landed, lol... Anyway, the father son pic was fine, it wasn't sexual, it was artistic.
thinking this can't be right ... last week i wanted to go to bible study but my son fell asleep before it was time to go... not wanting to disturb him i decided not to go
last week when it was time for choir rehersal again my son fell asleep an hour before so I opted not to go again
This week! an hour before bible study the dude falls asleep AGAIN!!!
he doesn't sleep at this time on any other day except for when i want to get to church >:( ... this little dude is going to be grumpy but we going tonight!!!
Where is your wife?
she wanted to start working again, so she picked up a part time job in the evenings
Thought just came to my mind.
Never back down and compromise on the quality of what you need in your life. If you see something good and know that it will benefit you, do not compromise and look for a lower quality alternative.
So, you're NOT going to buy that Gibson-knockoff you saw? :-\ :D
Given Fenix's recent epiphany, I'm going to try really hard to get that PRS
Tell her to take him to work. :D
Thinking about something someone said. This person said that black boys from lower class environments don't get any accolades or attention for being smart or going to college, but they are praised when they are good at dancing, music or sports.
Interesting...
That's not true, overall.
OAN, though, a point was made in the book I'm reading that the smartest kids in this area of the South Bronx aspire to careers like x-ray technicians, sanitation workers, and correctional officers. This is how limited their view is. A quote from the book:
"Many of the ambitions of the children," she replies, "are locked-in at a level that suburban kids would scorn. It's as if the very possibilities of life have been scaled back. Boys who are doing well in school will tell me, 'I would like to be a sanitation man.' I have to guard my words and not say anything to indicate my sense of disappointment. In this neighborhood, a sanitation job is something to be longed for.'"
#kindarandom
@Fenix, the worst part is that a woman can say that and mean it, and a man can betray her trust and she'll still say it to the next man. She just wants to be able to trust someone and needs to believe that there's somebody out there who won't hurt her. That's a woman with really poor self-image and low self-worth. Sad.
Very true, Fenix.
Very true, Fenix.Sounds like a good non-profit.
@U, exactly the point the author was making. I really want to do something to expose our inner city kids to entrepreneurship and the white collar world so they can see that they have options.
NY-trained drivers are the best drivers. #stereotype with #truthOnly some of us are good drivers, and it's because we have to deal with so many people who can't drive. :-\
:)
U13, the worst drivers in NY are still better than the best drivers elsewhere. #generalization #unapologetic :DOne of my friends can't stand when people blow their noses in public (meaning not in the restroom or by themselves), LOL! It never really bothered me, except when I was younger I can remember my sis used to blow her nose every morning and for some reason, the sound drove me crazy. It just felt like the nastiest sound ever. I think I was just fed up with sharing a room.
OAN, in my entire life, I have only seen one group of people consistently cough in public without covering their mouths (and no, I'm not talking about children). Nothing irritates me more. NOTHING.

Wondering the significant difference between owning a tablet vs. a laptop
What do you think more likely - that tablets will become like laptops, or vice versa?
What do you think more likely - that tablets will become like laptops, or vice versa?
The glass is half full. :DTablets are basically laptops now but you dont hear anyone taking it for upgrades. You just buy the new one. They have been trying to bring tablets to market previously but werent successful until after the ipad.
Anyways I think tablets will become more powerful and capable of doing things laptops can currently do. They will start to boast of faster processors and better graphics and will be able to handle complex tasks just like a laptop.
Oh and some tablets don't have the same type of software capabilities that laptops have.
As a student, I will tell you this, if you're looking to buy one or the other and plan on doing any sort of work on them (school, church, employer, or otherwise), I would go with a laptop. I have both, but between school, email, church, and regular work, I definitely use the laptop far more than I use the iPad.
Edited: I forgot you'll be FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!! in July, so the school component may be irrelevant. :D Plus, you have a desktop, so you can always do your typing on that. I'd go with a tablet if I already had a desktop, don't travel a whole lot and don't need to do work while I travel.
Humanism and how it screws up things.

A new analysis of data from New York State has revealed that less than half of those who took a driving test in New York City last year passed the on-road exam. According to the New York Daily News, a total of 46 percent of the 181,196 individuals who took the basic road test in 2012 passed the assessment, down from 52 percent the year prior.
I'm thinking about moving. I was looking into moving to Atlanta, but from what I've researched that may not be the best move. I think if I move it should be for more than just getting out of the house. It should be a career move. However...idk...I guess I have to think about it more. Why do you say ATL is not a good move?

Now Thinking: I may not have been listening to the right people. I'm seriously considering Atlanta as an option again, yet more optimistic this time.As far as the south goes Atlanta is the land of opportunity in many areas. There are are more opportunities here for me but I want to move back home for now.
